On the 17th November, the FSCS published a report for a short period on their website prior to replacing it with the one currently there. It was seen by many people and stated that 50,000 2nd emails had been sent.
First paragraph read as follows;
By the end of Sunday (16 November 2008) 50,000 notification emails had been sent to UK Icesave customers. FSCS began making payments to UK customers of Icesave last week. By the end of Friday (14 November 2008) the FSCS had paid out around £0.25bn to UK Icesave customers and by the end of Sunday (16 November 2008) over 50,000 second emails had been sent.
Based on this figure, and assuming there are are circa 230,000 account holders, then there are 180,000 emails to be sent between 17th November and the end of the month, if the FSCS target is to be maintained.
This is equivalent to approx 12,800 per day. If one peruses the various forums which Icesave victims frequent (and of course assuming that there is a larger percentage who just sit tight in isolation and just check their email every day) and the trickle of emails reported, there is no way that this figure has been approached since the weekend. They either have to increase their output still further for the remaining days or miss the target. Either way, we are not being given the full story.
I work in IT systems programming, and given the timescale in which this electonic process has been adapted, we would consider it unthinkable to compromise an IT system without acceptance testing, system testing, volume testing etc, especially one given the task of returning billions of £'s to the correct accounts.
It is my opinion that for the above reason, the FSCS process has met a problem, which instead of reporting and aplogising for, they instead attempt to placate us with such rubbish as how long it takes to complete the electronic process, WHEN one is able to action!
FSCS, please be honest with us!0 -

How come the rate has gone down by 2%, after BoE dropped the prime rate by 1.5%? How come we get notification today (Wednesday 18th), but it's effective November 7th - 11 days ago? How come as a 'new' ING Direct saver I can get 6% AER (for the first 12 months at least), while as an 'old' (I.e. Kaupthing Edge) account holder I can only get 4.55%?
I'm not impressed with ING Direct.0 -
Good moaning all, let's start today positively and take solace from Kipling:
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master,
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
Right, now that's over, "I've still not heard a bl**dy thing!" :mad:

Bit too early for me.........are we being softened up to a possible delay to compensation....perhaps after the new year?....Illegitimi non carborundum

I was wondering about that. How expensive is running a laptop as compared to an iron or tumble drier etc. You know my luck, when I eventually get my 2nd email it will be immediately followed by one from Powergen "£20,000 by Monday or your cut off!"In memory of Chris Hyde #8670
