Those stretchy bracelets you can get in a pack from places like supermarkets or on the high street might work and you could perhaps put one in each instead of one odd one out without a scratchcard? Asda have little gold trees, about 3 or so for a fiver or they have gold tealights with snowflakes on about 6 for £2.
ETA: The trees are 6 for a fiver:
They also have these 12 for £3 which you could attatch to the top of your labels or use inside for gold things:
Other ideas are hair things and nail varnish/make up
Thanks, trouble is I have the scratchcards/toffees/crunchies/gold coins and just need 1 thing possibly to replace SC but will have a look anyway.Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.0 -
I bought some replacement Ferrero Rocher today (don't ask!), along with some Sainsbury toffees (wrapped in gold and only about 47p for a big bag), Werthers, and choc coins (2 for 1 bags @ 99p from Superdrug).
When my boys came home and saw them on the side they wanted to make some pots up. I'd got some pretty-shaped jam jars and a pot from an Ikea scented candle, both of which looked stunning once the boys had filled them. We put them in sellophane packs left from my card-making stock and sealed with label and sparkly gold gift-ribbon.
I've only just realised that I forgot to include the giant, golden Quality Street chocs (3 for £1 at Sainsbury) but I'm not going to risk undoing them now!
Teachers' gifts sorted! Thanks for the idea.0 -
I just wanted to say that the recipients really appreciate these pots of gold, I did them thanks to this thread, for all my work colleagues (9 of them and one for my sons teacher) the work people loved them, I have never had so much praise, such wonder, they kept looking at them saying how lovely they were, how much thought had been put into them, that I shouldn't have bothered, how pleased they were, it really was lovely to have such praise heaped on me:rotfl:it was a definete success:D will be doing it again next year that is for sure0

I've made my pots of gold and put them in the Christmas Eve Hampers.
Put if plastic wine glasses bought 4 for 25p from Mr A in the summer sale and stuck some gold star stickers on. Put in werthers, a large caramel oversized quality street, and a pot of gold scratch card and some twilight chocolates.
Put 2 in gold mesh drawstring bags which look lovely then put the last one in a celleo bag which wasn't as nice and attached some nice gold curly ribbon to this one.
A nice little filler HM gift - hope they go down ok as gifts and they are better than last years ones I made in a bit of a rush and put in old jam jars and tried to make look nice.final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
Help! I've made about 20 pots of gold after finding this thread about a week ago for all my friends and family, the only thing they need is a scratchcard - thats the problem! Really don't think I have got a spare £20 this side of xmas so was wondering if anyone gives these without the scratchie? If so is there a different poem or verse I could use as the ones on here are all about luck etc and I really think the scratchcard relates to this. Would love to know what you all think I should do, Thank You0

I don't think you need a scratchcard. If you're happy with the way they look then that's the main thing. If you feel the need to bulk them out, get more sweets.0 -
Well i have had great feedback from friends and family regarding my pots of gold, they all loved them and they have all told me wheter or not they got winners.
Out of 30 x £1 scratchcards we had:
11 non winners,
9 x £1
5 x £2
4 x £10
1 x £50 (MIL was quite impressed with her little windfall)
So i will defo be doing these again next year.:TIs thankful to those who have shared their :T

Last year I did mine in coffee jars with the gold lids (if I didn't have some my neighbour did) -popped everything in them and put gold ribbon on top and tied label round.
Others I did using a gravy tub............covered it with images of gold coins and gold ribbon stuck on top with label - they were easier for me to post as I knew they wouldn't break and it kept the weight down.
I get in a mess with cello as well.
If you can't wait till christmas how about doing some for Easter ?I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !
