Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 13/11/08 Tis is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well
Morning all
Hope you are all well today, off to w**k for me, so not an awful lot of os today. Will have a quick tidy through before I go, and put a wash on when I get back. tea is something and chips, might do fishfingers or fishcakes and peas.
DD has has porridge with raisins, a kiwi fruit with orange juice, I will have my porridge at work, I am not hungry this early.
Will put a small wash on tonight.
Hugs to those who need them.
Kathy good luck for today xx
Have good days all xx

Morning RR & all who/cross, follow.
Off to work soon & it's chilly here again. Hubby not doing too well at the moment, still not been paid & it's worrying him, I don't exect the money till after Christmas. He drew his benefit yesterday, £38 a week approx & gave me that, the lodgers leaving on Saturday, but I am doing an extra lunch dutie today & that adds an extra £5 to the pot. I have saved the £100 from the lodger, that is now my Christmas money. I shan't buy 'proper' presents so that will more than cover the food.
W.I. tonight, definately an OS night, it's about £30 a year, that covers the speaker, tea or coffee & a quiz. I think we need to pay for our Christmas meeting tonight, but that will only be £2 or £3.
Lamb stew for tea tonight, with the left over from the roast shank we had yesterday.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good morning Redruby and all who cross/follow,
i woke up on the sofa againMr Sunny and the little old doggie stayed upstairs with the cat and the young doggie stayed downstairs to look after me
I woke ages ago and i`ve empties the wm and hung the washing on the radiator airers and emptied the dw. The bm finished a while ago so i`ve put it back on for dough for rolls later.
The dogs and cat have all been fed and i`ve added some more chilli powder to the huge chilli bubbling away in the slow cooker.
Tonights dinner will be turkey and all the trimmings (well almost) as there seemed to be a great deal of meat on the leg that i cooked last night, we shall have some sprouts too. I blanched the sprouts yesterday and froze most of them. I am slowly working my way through the veg mountain in the fridge and i can now see some spaces in a few placesit was so full that i couldn`t get anything else in it
I collected the jars yesterday and they went in the dw last night so now i have 5 shiny new ones to fill with something nice, i shall be looking through the recipes later today.
I`m off to do some browsing
Have a good day peeps ((((HUGS)))) for everyone.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning all, been up 2 hrs and have the wm on, I won't be able to use it whilst the 22 F&F are here.
DH is picking up DB1 & SiL from Bristol Airport at 1.30. I'll stay here and do a final dusting, hoover and swish kit and b/room floors. I'll make another apple cake as 1 will not go far.
I have a gallon of soup simmering on the hob as it won't fit in the SC.
All table linen sorted but needs a quick ironing, I ironed them before putting them in linen cupboard but they are a bit creased. I'm not using linen napkins so I bought some paper ones, not OS but I'm thinking of the fuel saved by not having to wash, dry and iron.
SYBIL, thanks for the tips on keeping things cool, our local pub Landlady has kindly offered to let us use their fridges and freezers.
Did a huge shop y/day and have a mound of veg to make into Cauli & Broc cheese, Leek and courgette quiche and got some 'no meat mince so will make a veggie chilli today.
Must do banking, and order french sticks from Bakers, I don't have time to make them, at least I have made 6 loaves and another 2 will be made today.
Haven't had time to catch up but will do next week when everyone has gone.
Huge Hugs to all.0 -

Morning all,
Sunnyday, I was/am having problems with the site too, my 'thanks' button isn't working & it keeps saying it can't display the page. Driving me mad!
Kaatlady, I got Rice Krispies & also CocoPops in Sainsburys the other day, good bargain
Bethebee, hope you remain sane while everyone is there....!!
Redruby, I got a CK Christmas bag in our MrT on Sunday
Car is going to the garage today needing a new exhaust (it's been booked in for that for 3 weeks & the old one decided to start hanging off Tuesday ), plus brake discs/pads. Am bracing myself for a large bill...
Full of a stinking cold & sore throat too, so good job I have a couple of study days timetabled. The lump could be an infected cyst, so I have a week's worth of antibiotics. I still have a feeling/worry I will end up having someone shove a needle in it if it doesn't go away.
Therefore, not much OSing going on here today. Might make some carrot soup for lunch though. Looks like it will be nice out so possibly even get some washing hung out.

morning all
Cold and clear here this morning, supposed to be terrible later. Hope all is well with you all and big hugs to those who feel grotty or fed up.
Went out to my first WI meeting last night in the village where I grew up, with my Mum. It was held in our village hall where I used to go to school. It always brings back such lovely memories for me.
Today plan to go to the allotment and dig. Am over half-way now so quite pleased. Then my neighbour is coming around to give me a massage and facial, my birthday present from OH. Going out to my local casino to night with the girls for a meal and a flutter. OH and DS have meatballs from the freezer and spaghetti.
Have a good day all.

morning all!
The site is playing up a bit for me too!I have thanked everyone twice I think but they have disappeared for some reasonand yesterday I kept getting a blank grey screen but it was ok if I refreshed it.
Busy day today - cleaning for Mum this morning, off to get my nails done later(cant really afford it but its my only treat to myself) then am visiting my poorly friend afterwards. She is having some fortified milkshakes to try and get her strength back as she hasn't eaten hardly at all for the last few months.
I have been and bought the local paper to check for jobs for DS but there's nothing going, he rang for one but it had gone and has left his details with an agency plus applied for benefits.
At least Christmas is sorted, I have saved about £50 for food and £200 for presents in a big tin which we opened last weekend. I have told the boys that there will be no big presents but they are teenagers now so dont need toys etc. I have already bought a few bits for them which is outside the £200 so thats a help too. My sister and I have decided not to buy for each other or our partners this year which is another saving so all I am buying for is my 2 boys, DH, my Mum and DHs Dad.Quite a short list:j
(((hugs))) to those in need of them
Take care all x
edited to say the thanks seem to have reappeared!Do what you love :happyhear0 -

Hiya
dull morning here again and lots of bad weather promised.
Will get dd's room sorted out and all the camping gear she used put away today. She's gone for 6 months....maybe I could use her room for something else?
Free lunch today..well sort of old style. Friend said if I sewed her GS's cub badges on, she'd take me to the pub for chips! She doesn't sew, so I get this sort of thing every now and again. I've been in a lot recently, all my coffee dates keep getting postponed for one reason or another and will probably all end up in the same week. Such is life.
WM on, still ploughing through the amount that dd brought home from her travels and created while she was here, eggs boiling for packed lunch tomorrow, BM needs to go on next. Jacket potatoes for tea today, didn't have the heart to give them yesterday, as the house smelt of the chicken curry for the freezer, so gave them that instead. That is safely stashed and I'm getting a nice little cache of ready meals.
Any ideas for more? So far I have
chilli
carrot & cori soup
spag bol
chicken curry.
burgers
can't think what else I have there and list isn't to hand. I have decided that I would rather have ready made things in there rather than raw meat that I have to start and cook. I usually know in advance if there are going to be more of us and I need something different.
I have lamb mince, but no inspiration. Might make one pack into Delia's libyan couscous soup. Have another pack, so maybe something else spicy, my "boys" like that."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Good Morning All
Lovely and sunny here in Essex. Hope that improves my mood as I seem to be in a very bad mood, think it might be because I have to take DD to the orthodontist today as something fell off her brace. Its 45 mins each way and by the time we get her back to school its lunchtime so we end up waiting around for another 30 minutes.
Anyway apart from that its officework and ironing today.
OS wise - didnt get round to cake making yesterday so will do that, will also check the freezer to see if have enough bread for tomorrows packed lunches - if not will get a loaf on.
Not much else to report - have a great day.x
Purpleivy - what about some Kofte kebabs with the lamb mince?0
