I was approached today by newspaper columnist asking for names for contact of people suffering because of the PMS debacle.
He told me his paper was doing a feature to mark the first anniversary of PMS going into administration......
I too was approached, but wasn't able to offer anything 'new' despite having read some quite distressing facts on this forum about how people/families have been affected.
From what I can gather,it might be worth buying the NEWSLETTER on Tuesday since the 17th of November will mark the first anniversary of the Administrators letter ???0 -

Article in Mail on Sunday today
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/article-1227814/FSA-lose-key-role-massive-shake-up.html
Extract from end of article
However, elsewhere in the bill will be a new role for the FSA. It will order banks to set up 'redress mechanisms' for customers whose rights it believes have been infringed. This could apply to cases of overcharging for overdrafts, for example, and would spare aggrieved customers the need to go to court.
In addition, the bill is expected to provide for US-style class action against banks by groups of customers for the first time.
‘These parts of the bill are about empowering the consumer,’ said the spokesman.
The authorities seem keenly aware that many bank customers are disgruntled with their treatment at the hands of institutions – many of which have been bailed out by the taxpayer since the credit crunch first hit in August 2007.
With major public shareholdings in a number of key banks, Ministers are keen to be seen to be getting something in return for State support.

Rev. Sidlow McFarland - Chairman's Report - PMS Annual Report and Accounts 20070 -
Too many savers are suffering on a daily basis and it has to stop. An 85 year lady is sitting in her home with three cardigans, 2 pairs of thick stockings and a hat. She has no money to buy oil and uses one bar of a gas heater to heat one room. This lady's savings which are substantial are frozen in the PMS and she has been living like this for a year. Unfortunately there are thousands like her. This is wholly unfair and unacceptable!
A senior politician in Westminster who is most supportive of our cause has advised that the Northern Ireland Executive Ministers also have to take more initiative to ensure that the PMS debacle is resolved quickly. You will have noted recently in the Hansard report of the PMS debate at Stormont that the Deputy First Minister stated that it was rapidly moving towards a conclusion yet the Secretary Of State Shaun Woodward was quoted in the Belfast Telegraph on 11 November 2009 as saying that the Working Group expects to produce a draft report in the coming weeks. This is by no means rapid.
Please e-mail the following with any cases of hardship of which you are aware.
The Rt Hon Peter Robinson MP MLA - First Minister - ps.ministers@ofmdfmni.gov.uk
The Rt Hon Martin McGuinness MP MLA - Deputy First Minister - This is a shared office - same email address - usually if you communicate with one you will get a reply from both or from their respective staff.
Arlene Foster MLA Minister Department Of Enterprise Trade & Investment - private.office@detini.gov.uk
The Rt Hon Sammy Wilson MP Minister of Finance & Personnel - private.office@dfpni.gov.uk
The Rt Hon Shaun Woodward MP Secretary of State for Northern Ireland - woodwardsh@parliament.uk
As the PMS does have full cross party support we would urge you also to consider writing to the following Party Leaders and ask them to use whatever influence they can to bring about a swift satisfactory conclusion and to support the PMS savers at every opportunity:-
Sir Reg Empey MLA Ulster Unionist Party - Reg.Empey@niassembly.gov.uk
The Rt Hon Mark Durkan MP SDLP - m.durkan@sdlp.ie
David Ford MLA Alliance - David.Ford@niassembly.gov.uk

Quote This lady ought to move in with her minister, they get their heating paid for on top of a salary that most people would kill for.
When a vacant congregation wants to 'call' a minister the Church committee has to go before a committee at Church House stating how much they are prepared to pay a minister and satisfy the committee that they have a manse 'fit for purpose' for he or she to live in.
I'm told that they expect a study and at least three or four bedrooms one of which has to be 'ensuite'.
An elder told me ((I think jokingly) that the idea of that is that should any family in the congregation hit hard times they could get a bed for the night.
In all seriousness a good number of innocent clergy, many of them retired, and others with young families are victims of the present situation with PMS.0 -
REF News Letter today...
Interesting how John McFall on page 8 and also the piece entitled "investigators probe causes of collapse" both cite very strong cases for direct Government failure in regulation.
Shaun Woodward and Ian Pearson both admit the regulation was a shambles and say it will have to be improved!! And Ian Pearson helped create the regulations while an NI Minister!
What is REALLY keeping Gordon Brown from a solution bearing in mind the snappy happy ending for Dunfermline?0 -

dont think this will do much for the public perception of the PCI.I'm not sure about the cohesion provided by the PCI that Dr Carson refers to in his letter - I think most people will recall the speed with which they disowned the PMS one year ago.
Anyway - heres to hope.0 -

I am appalled by this case of hardship referred to by Betrayed. Has this old lady no family or friends?
If what Betrayed is claiming is true I for one am willing to buy her (or lend money for the purpose if she prefers) home heating oil.
Betrayed; please respond. If what you are saying is true this old lady's life is at risk. If we can't or won't help each other in a situation such as this we are as bad as those who caused this problem.0
