  • Hello all
I have been looking at this site since the beginning and have been too nervous to post as I always thought the chuch would help me out.
It is obvious now that they are not, so you will certainly see me at the general assembly this year. Can you let me know if we are doing anything as a group?

Had your directors been acting illegally?

No. The only way one could say they had been acting illegally would be if they had been found by a court to have done so. If I said now they had acted illegally, I would would be open to a claim for defamation (if I identified the company) and I would end up in court. No thanks. No creditor sued them because there was no case against them. Frankly, I believe they made v poor business judgements - but that's not against the law.

    Welcome totallyletdown

Firstly I consider myself to be of strong character, can deal with many situations but this one has reduced me to tears and confusion! - just like BelfastGran a couple of days ago - I think to put so much trust in our Church and to be treated this way. Its just like a member of your family not helping you in a serious crisis and perhaps saying "its your problem". Many of the savers in the PMS were real core members of the Presbyterian Church - the ones perhaps that attend every Sunday -

So many people - like totallyletdown - all felt the same - the church will help us! - and they are now coming out of the woodwork -

The General Assembly got us into this and the General Assembly must agree to get us out of this - it will take time - but it can be done.

So therefore Dr Who - your post is sensible and silence will work wonders!

Have had enough of the "legal" side of all this for a while - but, as I've said before, if I got every penny of my money tomorrow money deliverered in cash, gold bars by Securicor (no cheques or credit cards please, and no requests for credit as a refusal would offend) I would still WANT the truth - EVERYTHING out in the open!1 Who knew what, when they knew, what they were going to do etc etc and if heads had to roll in PMS/Church House then too bad!! If there is a resigning issue here then it has to be faced - sometimes it is honourable to face up to the consequences of decisions/actions, admit it to be so and GO!! People respect that - and I think it's the Christian thing to do - even, should I say, the Biblical thing to do!! Honourable people face things even when it is to their cost.
Anyway here's a thought - was the General Assembly venturing into a legal minefield in it's resolutions concerning PMS? Took at look at the definition of inducement i.e. (i) an inducing or being induced; (ii) anything that induces, motive, incentive; (iii) (a) an explanation introductory to a pleading (b) the benefit which a party is to receive for entering into a contract.
Now, I feel it COULD be said that PCI was inducing people to place money with the PMS with the intention of "benefiting" the wider Church - some of the PMS advertising in church publications and Assembly resolution which others have pointed out here could, I think, fall into the legal category of "inducement", point (ii b) being the most apt here. (Obtained from YourDictionary.com)
Anyway enough of this - will give some thought to meeting outside Assembly Hall. I think it's good, by the way, to see a wry sense of humour creeping in here - it all helps!!
  • Mmmmm. Silence at the general assembly?

Jesus did not spend his entire ministry silent. He did casitgate religious leaders for devouring widows houses.

Obviously PCS did not devour widows' houses in this, case BTW. But I am just making the point that I dont think this biblical ref fits.

What about silence WITH some striking placards, polite Presbyterian ones of course?

Anyway, there is always a public gallery at the general assembly, which is open to the public during the event, but those in it are not allowed to participate in any discussions. Anyone going will know each other if you are sitting there surely!

If we want a low key non placard "Presbyterian" protest we could all dress in red to signify our anger.
  • How many does the gallery hold in Church House?. Hope there is room for us all.

Maybe we should expand this discussion on the General Assembly and what is the format?

    Dr Who
What exactly is likely to happen on Tuesday 2nd June?
Will there just be a "dry" reading of a report from the General Board meeting, and a "nodding through" of it.
    Will there be a debate?

Unless there is a debate there is really not much point in attending to sit silently in the gallery for a 15 minute session, especially those who would have to travel a long way.

    Any thoughts anyone?

The Apprentice Boys of Derry burn an effigy of Lundy the Traitor in the street every year.

Any thoughts on an effigy burning?

    Any suggestions for a candidate?

For the purpose of identifying each other ... What about black 'mourning' arm
bands, if necessary with letters PMS/PCI?
