A diginified gathering would be good - silence is a powerful thing.
No.
Sorry Dr Who, I do not agree - keeping a dignified silence as most savers have done so far, has got them nowhere. In fact silence has created impotence on this occasion!
This is what has come to be expected/hoped for from 'compliant Presbyterians'.
Plus it will be very difficult for people to keep quiet, even if MSE forum members agree to it, there's no guarantee that all else will.
I'm bloomin' sure I' would find it hard.
Silence will get no media coverage for you, an orderly verbal rucus [sp?] will.0 -

Any thoughts on an effigy burning?
Any suggestions for a candidate?
Don't tempt me. :silenced:0 -

I have been given a "guesstimate" of 300 to 500 for the number of seats in the Gallery at the General Assembley.0

Just discovered something most interesting!!
PCI supports Rural Settlement Trust Ltd (out of which PMS sprang) by allowing directors to tour the Church inviting donations - clear evidence in Assembly reports of 60's - 70's
PCI General Assembly passes successive resolutions under BMI report encouraging people to invest in PMS to help one another and the Church - inducement!!
Just discovered tonight in Assembly Minutes 2008 p.212 that among the ex-officio members of the Board of Mission in Ireland is...guess what ..."Presbyterian Mutual Society Agent" - a full voting member of a Board of PCI
DONALD - no links with PCI - WHO ARE YOU KIDDING, MAN!!!!!
I rest my case - as a good Barrister would say!!!0 -

What about silence WITH some striking placards, polite Presbyterian ones of course?
Anyway, there is always a public gallery at the general assembly, which is open to the public during the event, but those in it are not allowed to participate in any discussions. Anyone going will know each other if you are sitting there surely!
I like the idea of silence with some striking placards but the problem is that I suspect that any placards/banners large enough to be read would actually be confiscated by the "bouncers" as PMS protestors went through the door. I have, of course, never attended a General Assembly so if anyone knows more than me on the subject feel free to correct my perception of things.0 -
