In reference to Joy's post, I would advise anyone who wanted to sue any director and his insurance company, to have very deep pockets as well as a watertight case, and I mean watertight legally. As I've said, I was a creditor in an Administration. I thought the guys who ran the company had made some really awful business decsions that led them into financial difficulties and liabilities they could not meet. But that did not mean they were guilty of any malfeasance, wrongful trading or anything else you could sue them for. Is there a danger that all this is leading you away from focusing on the target with the money - the government.

Just received this reply from Treasury Committee:
Thank you for your recent email relating to your concerns about the Presbyterian Mutual Society addressed to the Committee.
The Committee was made aware of this issue in the course of its visit to Belfast on 2 March 2009. The regulation of the Presbyterian Mutual Society is technically a devolved matter, but the Chairman of the Treasury Committee remains concerned about the problems faced by members of the Society. At this stage the Chairman is monitoring developments carefully.
Thank you for taking the trouble to write to the Committee.

oh dear oh dear - TECHNICALLY A DEVOLVED MATTER!

MONITORING DEVELOPMENTS - WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR US TO GET HELP?

Incidentally there are two letters in the paper today also, not online.

    T&B

    Thanks for mentioning.
Thanks also to the "Two Perplexed Presbyterians" for writing, and thanks to the Newsletter (how many times have we said that) for publishing.

A very good and well-reasoned (IMO) 30cm worth of "open letter to the Presbyterian Church in Ireland and politicians".

Strong words, with supporting evidence, without being sensational.

If either PCI or politician(s) choose to respond, please let us know.

Hello again - can understand sense of disertion. No one seems to want to help or accept responsibility!! Not the goverment, the banks, PCI, or those who caused the run in the first place - when can we hear from them?
Hard to keep going - but we must!!
Regarding the General Assembly Tuesday 2nd June 2 p.m. A diginified gathering would be good - silence is a powerful thing. The Lord Jesus suffered much for us but kept SILENT before His enemies. We need to do the same - no one should be able to say that we are a rowdy, noisy, rude lot!! Let our SILENCE in those galleries convict others - no applause, no shouting - nothing!!
Perhaps we could think of meeting outside at 1:45 and go in together - could "tip the wink" to the media.

It would, I believe, be the honourable thing to do: PCI was root and branch in PMS and the Rural Settlement Trust Ltd before it. This is the biggest crisis PCI has faced in it's history - but you wouldn't think it to listen to some people!! A crisis of credibility - it would help if we could promise to return to people the money they put in at our suggestion. The investors are people who have supported PCI faithfully for many years - where is the support when we need it!!
Chruch House folk knew that a crisis was looming - why weren't contingency plans made ready but kept under wraps. One of those highly paid people in Church House could have been "set aside" to liase, gather info, build contacts right from the start. Our Moderator has done an excellent job but he has other duties to perform. An office, a desk, a computer and a phone line were all available - in the PMS office, although I'm sure some "clearing out" could have been done in Church House to prepare a "War Room": we employ far to many people in there anyway!! We say we're short of ministers on the ground - get some of those OUT of Church House and let them do the REAL work!!

Totally agree with everything you have said.

A dignified silence will say it all. Please listen everyone - this is the only way we will get in to hear the proceedings. If PCI think that PMS savers are going to create disruption they will be thinking of every way to stop savers getting in to the meeting.

Wise words from Dr. Who so let's take heed of them.

Unfortunately I don't think that I will be there due to work/family/distance but how are you all going to "know" each other? :doh:Are you all going to carry a rose and meet under a clock tower or something? :hello:
Pardon me if I sound facetious. After so many months of relative anonymity on this site I am sure it will be strange for some people to finally come out of their closet?

It's hard for everyone but, like Dr Who said, we must keep going.

It's sad that PCI knew it was coming and buried their head in the sand like the proverbial ostrich.
Unfortunately PCI have treated faithful, hardworking Presbyterians with a total lack of respect or consideration for the circumstances they have left these same people in and some of these situations are beyond talking about - they are so sad.

It's appalling and very difficult to reconcile the current behaviour of PCI to that of a religious denomination. It smacks more like the behaviour of a ruthless multi-national who cares nothing for the individual, doesn't it?

Perhaps the lawyers who are employed by PCI have the knowledge to deal with large impersonal organisations but a church is NOT supposed to be like that. In fact, the very opposite - where has the personal touch been throughout this?

Dr Who is right - too many in Church House are locked away from the personal touch of the people on the ground in congregations - is that why they have been so good at distancing themselves - it probably wasn't a hard job because they don't know us personally, the people who genuinely believed our savings contribution to PMS was helping the church that we loved.

Thank you for such an honest post. You deserve every credit for this and if the day ever comes when we find out who you are there will be a queue to shake your hand.

Please note that there are some very genuine and helpful ministers who are keeping their congregations up-to-date and pastoring appropriately. If you are fortunate enough to have one of them, please thank them - they deserve your gratefulness because they seem to be a rare breed.:T:T

I had a very positive and helpful conversation with my minister this evening regarding PMS issues. :T
