Well they do say cider is a very quick result... But I'm sure someone with more cider expertise than I will be a long shortly to clarify for you :)

Has anyones blackberry wine finished fermenting yet? Mine has, started on 18th Sept and has finished. Its quite dry and tastes really strong. Have racked it into another demijon, waiting for it to clear now. Kept the airlock on in case it decides to start fermenting again.

  • Hi tiff - I started mine on the 23rd sept. and its still fermenting...I managed to get my cider to start fermenting again and i've just re-racked it...some recipes say to not let cider ferment for longer than 10 days...so hmmm...just got to let it rest for 14 days before bottling :).. all trial and error i guess!

Good fun though. I fancy trying the cider too, just want to make sure what I have made is drinkable first lol

Careful, if you catch the bug, you will find yourself exhibiting at the local agricultural flower & produce show and winning prizes.

    Harry.

PS I got most of my kit from an auction, the sort of place where house clearance specialists unload the possessions of someone who has died. It was a fair few years ago, but I could not have paid more than a fiver, some of which I got back later at a boot sale selling my spares. (I got picky and insisted on clear glass for everything as it is easier to see that it and its contents is clean clear and well coloured.)
Did find myself the proud owner of an asbestos filter though (OMG:eek:).

last night, both me and hubby kept looking at our demi johns in the kitchen, bubbling away  I can just tell this wine making thing is highly addictive. I have even put an add on free cycle yesterday for more demi johns and I have had a reply, a very kind lady is giving us 6 out of her loft tonight :j

will let u know how it goes

  • What can be done with around 500 apples as only so much apple sauce and crumble etc can be made? We'd love to make apple cider (the quickest way possible) but does anyone have a recipe and where do we get any equipment to do this? Can you even make apple wine (and if so, how?)?
