That DOES look like a nice easy way of doing it... now... where the heck can I hide another large bottle? LOL!!!

Have also realised I can probably hide a demi john or 2 under my kitchen sink... OH never goes under there so won't notice if I sneak one in there or not... hehe

I am starting this wine off today, tea wine only I am thinking of using some old Christmas tea bags that need using up (those have black tea and spice oil as the ingredients). Dont have any raisins but do have sultanas so am going to use those instead.

I just hope with all this guess work I make something drinkable!

  • I've got that book by CCJ Berry! Found it in the charity shop for 10p.

Every old-style craft and hobby seems to have an old paperback written about it by some old codger in the 1960s doesn't it, usually a chap with bryclreemed hair, NHS specs and smoking a pipe!

  • Jammy when ever I see a book in the cartity shops near us it's nearly as dear as buying it from a cheap book shop:mad:

HELP I'm confused! I've got everything - pectolase, yeast, demi john, blackberry, sugar etc
But loads of recipies talk about killing of any natural yeast in the ingredients first? Ie wild yeasts... How on earth do I do this? What do I need to add??? HELP!!!

Hi tine, as far as I know you need Campden tablets to kill the natural yeast first, then the next day you add the wine yeast. Wild yeasts are too weak which is why we use the wine yeast. Have to say though that I've done a blackberry and a tea wine so far and havent used a campden tablet for either. (Neither recipe mentioned it.)

Hi there, my blackberry wine is best kept for 12 months, the taste does improve over time. You can use it sooner but its a bit 'rough' then!

I hope you all enjoy your Blackberry Wine, I won't be having any now because oh managed to knock the demijohn off the side this morning:eek:   My house smells like a brewery and I am going to have to clean the floor again and again.

Perhaps I can still find some elderberries instead:confused:

Nooo! You must be so annoyed. Never mind, there are still loads of blackberries down the lanes near where I live. Elderberries are harder to find for me. You could try getting rowans, sloes or hawthorns instead?
