My debt free dream....

Well....really annoyed as can't over pay
have re looked figures. Quite annoying really. Will have to save cash once other loans paid off. means we are fixed with the 350 odd a month  i complained as had been told etc etc but got no where and cant be bothered to fight properly. we shouldn't have been so stupid to think it was a good deal!!! Oh well.
On a brighter note - someone is obviously on my side. before we got married (and were debt fee!) we had a savings account with ING. I couldn't find any details to it and have them rung them and they couldnt trace me and then they did find us but wouldnt give me any details as in my maiden name so was on OHs list to do (which never gets done). By chance i came accross OH's online login details in the laptop bag. Logged on and there is 47.46 in there!! :j :j Been there since last withdrawl in 2005. I was clearly so rich I didn't need to worry about 40 quid back then
Downside is I have to send them a cheque for £1 in order to withdraw it (as changing bank dets) so it will have to wait a couple of weeks (its from our DD acc and dont want to risk going OD).
I can not wait until we are debt free. It will be nice to just save or perhaps even.... spend! :eek:DFW Nerd #11520 -
Hi
Just been reading through your diary. Its really great to see how well you are doing. I was really impressed to see that you have got rid of mbna 34.9%. I have just under 15k at 34.9% and the rest.
Well done and good luck.

OK have managed to get all jobs wanted to do - i AM studying
honest.... having a quick break....
Situation is - have to move into rented accom. It has come to the stage where we have DEFINATELY outstayed our welcome and although we wont be kicked out we can take the hint. Plus having done a PROS and CONS - me/OH have listed only 1 PRO which is financial. Having spent most of the last few days discussing and thinking we have decided that it will be in best interests of our small (but wonderful I might add he he) family if we moved! So we are. Money wise it means our debt busting is going to be limited. I have done a revised SOA but won't post yet.
We are eligible to HB (49.75) and CTB (2 a week:rotfl: ) according to the entitledto website. Called LA - they are sending forms but can't submit until have tenancy agreement in place. going to look at a few places tomorrow. One thing I have noticed is rental market seems to be booming - offering us all sorts so hopefully can negiate a cheap deal
Average rent is about 550 around here. Will find out what need to pay upfront tomorrow so can make sure have this ready.
In other news - got paid late this month again  which isn't really an issue this month but might be going forward as will be poorer  Did get paid the gvmt xmas bonus and was backdated so 70 extra :j . Other than that all ok. Need to transfer some money to DD account tomorrow once I OHs wages gone in.
Will update more tomorrow once have more info....DFW Nerd #11520 -
 Nightmare:eek:
Its not really - its just that i have these feeling of "impending doom" today. not sure why! Just one of those days - feel happy as I have achieved a lot today just have this funny feeling...hmmm hmmm hmmm
Things to report today
1/ banks all okay. transferred some money over as i was supposed to :j
2/ TC paid in exactly half what it says on their paperwork? what the blondy hell are they up to? will ring tomorrow and find out if not in there in the morning. Also - looking at the entitled to website should get 27p/w - we don't we only get 10 and we certainly don't earn more than 35k (benefits board tip)??? will ask them about this when i ring also as think they are still including my employed income that i left in january???
3/ went to see houses. was ideal  they are offering half price fees atm. So would need to find 1300 upfront
4/ I am too much of a DFW  I have done an SOA and as long as we get HB we will have around 160 spare each month (est 200HB and rent 550 which may be different) I think 150 will be lots for food. When we lived in our own home before we would spend about 200 a month and that was pre MSE! So I think 150 is easily doable - there is only 2 of us and the little man (although he eats like a horse!!). But we will save loads in petrol as OH can walk to work saving us around 20 a week. So swings and roundabouts I guess
It will be tight for the first month or so until the money is sorted. OH has told me to not worry about it too much! I can't help it though!! It is becuz I know the figures are close (and I can't chuck money willy nilly at debt! lol). But the alternative is...and if we hadn't been able to move in here then we would have had no choice (and been in a worse position as it was pre LBM) - so I think I am trying to tell myself to stop being such a baby and take some responsibility!
5/ Its times like this when I hate being in debt. If I wasn't I wouldn't have to worry. Plan for debt is to just budget the minimum payments. We still have loadsa stuff to sell. OH has promised to help me. Any extra we make then will go towards that. One good thing about renting is that the 700 deposit we give will go towards next house when we eventually move and I can't spend that! (although it would b nice too). It doesn't change our snowball DFD because of the fixed loan but it just means I have to find even more money if I want to keep us on track :rotfl: !!!!!!!!
long post....DFW Nerd #11520 -
So things to do are as follows....in no particular order :-
1/get all assignments completed. Have three remaining and then done until September. Would ideally like to get all these sorted by end of March at latest
2/ring EA tomorrow and see what best deal can get on rent is. Look to move around easter time would be best.
3/once completed 1/ start to focus on selling bits. This should also conincide with sorting stuff out to move and will be warmer so can do some car boots
4/get all money owed in asap. SIL owes us 210 which needs to go on cc. havent mentioned before but when i see at weekend will say if dont pay then will have to cover interest. Also got catalogue money to collect in next week. must remember to mention at weekend aswell. I REALLY dont have the money this month again and REALLY REALLY wont next month
5/sort out all bdays, easter and mothers day stuff for march/april/may. Going to have to have a think
6/if no form for LHA chase up. fill it in ready to send off.
7/keep up to date with work and make sure i claim expenses (i have been bad at this since xmas not sure why??)
8/once all money etc sorted post new SOA
9/put on the required 1.5 stones. (this is harder than it sounds! I eat 3 meals a day plus cakes, biscuits and anything else I fancy AND have at least 2 supplement drinks and I still look like a stick  Its amazing how many calories I burn not doing a great deal)
10/go to lung support group. MUST do this as it will probably be worthwhile. need nagging on this one.
Will add to this list as I remember things and complete things...must be more organised!!!!!!!!!DFW Nerd #11520 -

not a good day! AGAIN! Grrrr.........
cant privatly rent a place. Won't include some of our income so we don't meet their minimum income requirements. and is the same everywhere?? supposed I should have expected that - it they dont include for benefit purposes! D'oh. Just feel like everything is against us.
So I called the housing people at the local authority and nagged at them. What a stupid situation we are in? I can't rent privately as I dont have enough money, I can't buy a house of my own as haven't saved up enough deposit and paid debt (!) yet to get a decent mortgage and the local authority have no houses! So we have 2 options stay where we are and wait or do shared ownership. They want us to do shared ownership BUT having looked into this on here and from my friends' experiences of this - it isn't a wise idea. I can see why THEY want us to do this but I don't think its good for us. So i'm stuck. I am grateful to my parents as otherwise we would be homeless BUT it is still unbearable!!

Ooh, sorry to read that you seem to have hit a brick wall. I have no experience of things like that, only having rented for a very short period of time "inbetween buying" so can't help with any useful advice.
I hope you manage to get it sorted very soon. Perhaps approaching a landlord directly rather than through an agency?Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
hypno - thanks - we had considered not going through an agency but I think we have decided that its probably too much hassle. and we want an easy life....
Now that I have got over the SHOCK of our situation and am all ranted out, I can think about things logically!
So we have Plan A (or is it Plan Z now??? :rotfl: ) and Plan B. Hopefully one of the plans will come together :rotfl:
Plan A - wait for HA rented house, clear debts off and save save SAVE!
Plan B - buy shared ownership, clear debts off and save save SAVE whilst also paying a mortgage.
Plan B is/will be a big mistake money wise - as houses overpriced (have seen one on website which is 50% share of 85k so 100% is 170k, when house literally 2 doors down sold for (100%) 152k recently  (identical but ok the 50% share does look a bit smarter cosmetically but I wouldnt say to the tune of 18k), really restrictive on rental part - u can only buy additional shares at 10% chunks i.e you can't just save up and do it all in one go. Each time u buy shares u have to cover fees of this inevitably, at about 1k a go  so thats another 5k wasted..... and if u can't buy additional shares then u have to take the risk so that some other *sucker* will want to buy your share from you  the house i have seen has been on website for 18 months and there are others!:eek: They just aren't selling at the moment probably even less so than on the open market. Which is worrying and doesn't hold out much hope for someone buying in future. To be fair we wouldn't ever HAVE to move but in x years time I don't want to be still in the same situation as whats the point? and that seems to be the biggest risk. and why I think it is such a bad idea.
On the plus side though - we have our own house (well 50% of one :rotfl: ) and can be self sufficient again!!! and Plan B is doing things the hard way which seems to be theme with us!
Mortgage on 85k is about 450 a month a mo with nationwide and rent is 200 - so 650 a month - so we know we can afford payments and still have enough to live, pay debts off and then save!
So that is what we are going to do. HA are sending me all the forms for the shared ownership stuff (again) and have said it takes a while to get sorted so by the time its sorted out Plan A may have kicked in and if it hasn't well so be it (and the hard way is it then!)
So with that in mind....DFW Nerd #11520
