The thought of Krusty the Clown doing a strip is entirely putting me off watching TV indefinitely. I've only got a new TV recently so please behave. _pale_ _pale_

Don't kid yourself. They accept the cash. They accept the billing of property 'experts' and property 'gurus'. And they confidently predict what will happen next in the Economy and the Housing market in full knowledge that millions of gullible fools will believe what they say.. So they do bear a large part of the blame, no-one ever said they were solely to blame.

    Top post.

Sorry wymondham, but in this society where we've had an 11 year hyper-boom based on debt, and where X-factor is worshipped and people are hypnotised by Big Brother Reality TV, and consumerism has run riot...

...a lot of the younger generation hold Phil and Kirsty as experts as that is what they are frequently described as, and they've never refused such descriptions. They have played a major role in this. Older generations should have had some memory of what has happened in the past.

If anyone blames a bubble and its subsequent bursting on a couple of TV presenters they're as dumb as the buyers that have paid half a million for a 'penthouse' in Barnsley or Slough or wherever.

All I know is I never listened to them. I'm cash loaded (not rich but sufficiently set up for my first house purchase).

We shall see if others hold them partially responsible G.

There are a lot of dumb and perhaps angry people. There are people losing jobs they didn't expect to (perhaps yourself included), and finding a big change in their circumstances. I wish you luck in Aus for I fear you will need it if you really think it offers less class divides than the UK.

Many deserve a slice of the blame.

TV Property pimps, estate agents, mortgage brokers, bankers, BTL slum landlords, BoE, politicians, etc. None of them can hold their heads up high after this debacle.

And everyone else that just bought a house to live in at inflated prices. If you buy into a bubble you're part of the problem.

Then there's the guys with credit cards and car loans. And the Chinese Government and Japanese 'housewives' for providing much of the cash that funded the bubble. And Alan Greenspan. Ooh and that couple in Ashford.

And hedge funds. Dunno what they are but they are extra specially to blame.

And Thatcher. Just for good measure.

To be clear, this isn't a personal dig. It's just that the economy works as a massive series of interconnected transactions. Some fat bird doesn't get up on TV and say "Buy mountains" and before you know it the Swiss Alps are worth more than the GDP of South America.

Stuff is complex and it's not possible to point a finger and say, "You, you're to blame".

I'm not sure about that. I remember in the 80's when as an April's Fools on Panorama they ran a segment on investment in spaghetti trees and the BBC was inundated with calls from people wanting to know more.

Eta; I've just looked it up, I apparently saw a clip about it in the 80's as it happened in the 50's.:o
