I recently had an upgrade on my 3year old computer (as something had ‘blown') to windows xp. - new motherboard and new modem. my isp is aol and the disc has loaded onto the desktop ok, but I simply cannot get on line, the modem is not recognising my telephone line, even though the phone works o.k, so there can't be a problem with the line (I'm not on broadband). The dealer is mystified and so is a techie friend who has tried to guide me through everything he can think of.
Any ideas out there - as to what could be the problem - I've been without my computer for far too long and it's driving me up the wall!
ps everything is plugged in ok and into the right socket!if i had known then what i know now0 -
can you dial a mobile phone from phone dialer?
also check the dialing tone is correct, pulse or tone and make sure that there's no leading number set; ie trying to dial a 9 for an outside line..
Also might be worth checking that it's the right area code so it's not trying to dial international / America rather than the UK +44 setting0 -
