We put them up early on first weekend in Dec, like to enjoy the festive runup to Christmas with them up, but as soon as Boxing day is over we take them down, on the 27th. It just doesn't feel right having them up after that, feel like cleaning the house and tidying it all up!
That's us nearly - we always take ours down new years eve before getting ready for the parties, or new years day cos we're too hungover to go out!0 -
Usually my decs and tree don't go up until the week before Christmas. I have to be honest and say cos I just can never motivate myself. When the kids were little I used to love doing it when they went to bed and see the look on thier faces when they got up in the morning.
I know it is all about the children but as they have got older and wanted to be involved in the tree decorating I have felt like they are invading my territory  So I try and find a time when they are not around to do it. I am quite untidy but I am so anal about how the tree has to look.
I am starting to feel more festive already though so I might just go ahead and put the tree up on December 1st. We were away for Christmas last year and I missed it all.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Hi all
Love the pics of the decs and cards
Need some advice...I LOVE Christmas, all the build up etc, and usually put my decs up on Dec 1st. This year however because of OH's holidays, we are going away from 30th Nov to 13th Dec, and then 5th Jan till 25th Jan!
We are still having the big family Christmas...but I can't face the thought of unpacking/packing again, washing etc, AND dragging everything down from the loft for a couple of weeks.
Should I put up the all the decs before I go, and hope I manage to fit in taking them down again before the 5th......(can't come home end of Jan to decs up) or..... buy a fibre optic tree and leave it at that?
LOLLife.

The decorations go up on Christmas Eve followed by Christingle service for the children and Midnight Mass for everybody, and come down on 12th Night, the traditional days for them  . We've always done this and my now adult children do the same with their families.
I do like to see them in people's homes and going to the village switch-on evening, but I really get anoyed when shops start playing carols in September as one local supermarket did  .
I enjoy Christmas as much as the next person although I wish it hadn't become just a commercial venture and folk would remember what it's really about...not forgetting that some people aren't particularly religious, but in which case why are they spending all that money and what occasion are they celebrating?!0 -
