You've hit the nail right on the the head there jcr16, I am exactly the same way.
Not for myself as such, when I was young my family REALLY struggled financially. I remember one month we had nothing but soya beans for every dinner, theres only so many way to make that interesting! DH on the other hand is used to having 10 of everything and will always nip out to get more if he thinks we are running low. He's very regimented (anal really, was just trying to be nice!) about his meals and has pretty much the same thing every week. Moans about carbs which means I cant eek things out with spuds/rice/pasta/bread etc. Its been very difficult trying to change the way he sees food.
I will continue though, I enjoy a challenge! My aim is to eventually get down to around £300WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbsWeight today = 17st 6.5lbsLoss to date 32.5lbs!!!0 -
I came in just under my budget of £250 last month. Am going to try for £200 (2 adults and 1 child) which should be fairly easy although the organic box deliveries take up a chunk.0

Am going to join in again this month....
Still have a credfit card to pay off and we are toying withe idea of moving to Oz. ( Back home for me!!) So have to get our house which is currently a building site into some semblance of normality to even think about selling it.
So I'm going to try to live on just the child benefit and the money our lodger gives us which works out at £91.20 per week. Thats gotta cover OH's £10 pocket money, food and petrol and any other things that crop up.
I'm sure I can do it, as long as OH stops spending.....does anyone else have that problem or is it only mine who just doesn't get it????
So hopefully about £50 per week for groceries :j0 -

Not at all! My DH doesnt equate his debit card with ACTUAL cash. I've had everything including his salary transferred to my acc and am now going to give him pocket money. I'm dammned if the budgets going out the window cause he fancies a new CD.WW Start Weight 18/04/12 = 19st 11lbsWeight today = 17st 6.5lbsLoss to date 32.5lbs!!!0 -
I'm going to join for first time. Hoping to get my food shopping down to £60 which no doubt will be a challenge at first, that's for 2 adults and 3 children.0

Went shopping today and spent £30 which I'm really pleased about.0

Did my weekly shop this morning and spent £46.50-my target is £200 this month.I was feeling really pleased with myself until OH pointed out that Jan is a 5 week month.I don't care though as I always budget weekly rather than monthly so I'll revise my target to £50 a week which I know works out at £200 more over the year but I think for 5 people it'll be quite a challenge.0

Hoping to join in the challenge next month, i went shopping on xmas eve, and new years eve and was able to stock up my freezer with all the meat they were selling cheap, so hoping that i will only have to buy milk, fruit and veg this month!!!!0

:hello: I'm joining in this month, oh is retiring _pale_ so half income and need to concentrate!
Haven't been shopping since Christmas eve, went today and grocery spend was £11.04 for some parsnips, lots of clementines, lots of lemons (oh has a cold) carrots, about 2 months supply of purina one cat food (half price in sainsburys), eggs (have to be free range so will use carefully) and in a weak momenta reduced pack of egg custard tarts! Need to keep months bill to below £200 to feed 3 adults and an elderly and fussy but much loved cat.
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
Jan grocery challenge £35.77/£1200
