I think your daughter must be very mature to be tolerating this. Personally, I'd have had her in a headlock long ago.
Yes, your daughter should have somewhere to lock away her things - the key thing being that she shouldn't have to and SD needs a good talking to about the issue before it starts to come between them an affects their relationship.

I wonder if SD realises how much everything she had used had cost your DD? Maybe they could go shopping, and DD could buy her normal stuff & then SD would see the cost of nice make-up & expensive shampoo.....might make her think twice about using it, especially if your DD could "suggest" to SD that if she is going to use her stuff then next time it is her turn to pay?

I agree with having a lockable drawer for both girls - everyone needs a treasure box ;)
  • I'd maybe give them each a lockable box/chest at Christmas - that way it will seem like a treat to the younger girl without her thinking it's about her using stealing the bits?
Also - just thinking here ( I don't know as i'm not too great with locks and things) , if you got a cheap lockable box, would the key be the same?

Maybe i'm just thinking about REALLY cheap things - like the moneyboxes me and my brother got from the bank, they both had the same key so I could open his!!!

I too am the youngest of 3 girls so always nicking the older ones' stuff!

It might be that your stepD is naturally wanting to be like her big stepsis, and that using her stuff is part of wanting to feel grown up and sophisticated.

It might be a good idea for her to be able to have her own grown up shampoo or makeup? I understand you might not want to 'reward' her for using her sister's stuff, but you could get her to do chores around the house to earn it? There's loads of stuff you can get for really cheap in superdrug or free with Boots offers, there's a great thread on Bootsing in grabbit.
