Evening everyone :D Good to see that this thread didn't post during the silence. We had some musicians visiting at school today and one of them played the last post on his bugle out in the playground just before 11 - very moving. What gets me most about my grandfather is that his name is on the war memorial here under people with no known grave ...............

Since I got home I have cleaned the oven, cleaned the cutlery drawer, sorted the two small storage boxes in the front room and filled a bin bag :p There's nothing on my stairs, I have no plants and no mantel, so that's 3 more things deleted :D Bins will be done before bed!

    lady-liberty - just realised you're down south too :D

    rose-tinted - welcome - and avonlea

lil-me - hugs - it's difficult at the mo but at least DS is being supported by everyone. Have you ever read 'welcome to Holland'?

I watched it with my mum and dad and was in tears too. My daughter's teacher allowed them to watch it in school. She explained what the silence was about and asked anyone who wanted to observe it to stay in the classroom. Every child stayed and she said that you could have heard a pin drop. My daughter then came home and told me all about it and how important it is that we all remember. I was very proud of her (despite her driving me mad right now!!!) xx

Mudbath - that's lovely! Well done to DD and her class. One of my class (who, if I'm honest, is a little difficult!!) agreed to come out on the playground for the silence. He stood as straight and tall as a soldier and observed the silence beautifully :T that brought tears to my eyes!

  • Thanks for your kind words, lovelies. My grandad and great-uncle were very special to me. My great-uncle was a superb musician (piano and church organ) and he encouraged me in my love of music, paying for my lessons and ensuring I had a piano to practice on. He was also a talented artist (water colour and oils - I am fortunate to have inherited some of his work). I think he must have been a very sensitive young man and when I think of the horrors that he must have seen.........! The Great War and its aftermath changed so much for so many people. Great-Uncle's fiancee died (we believe she was a victim of the 1919 flu epidemic) and he never married, spending his life helping to ensure financial security for his brother's family. One of the unsung heroes, but he would never have claimed that for himself.

Oh, Bugrit! I knew there was something I meant to do and I really can't face it tonight....I have toothache again (came on just before dinner) but, you know, I'm not sure it is actually my teeth......I am wondering whether it could possibly be my sinuses as the pain is from my cheekbones down into my back teeth. I have a dental appointment at 12.15 tomorrow with my Lovely Dentist (no, really, he is gorgeous :o ) so I'll find out then.

I am going to have a long soak in the tub, take some painkillers, make a nice cup of tea and them I'm going to bed to read until I fall asleep!

Hugs to everyone......and as Anne of Green Gables said "Tomorrow is another day, with no mistakes in it" :D

Right.....Well today was a complete washout. Have done zero flying, although oh has tidyed living room floor and run the dw ad wm, so at least something got done. But Im shattered, spent the last three day sorting out a way for me to get my glorious oh (he is like waaaaaaaaaay fabulous! Way more fab the I deserve) his early christmas gifty. Our little tradition which has us buy each other a little prezzie in November....I've got him a PS3 with wwe smackdown v raw:j ....shoulda see his face...thought I'd bought the game as incentive to save, then I came back with the console. Priceless:rotfl: . Hes happily making superstars whilst I tootle the internet, but we are planing an early night.
My day off tomorrow, so plan on doing my catchups then...promise pigpen, please don't throw stuffs at me.
Welcome to all the newbies, there does seem to be loads this week.
Pink, you know, I'm sure I'm seeing something vaguely resembling lists on some of your posts....stop it!!!!
    Now MARRIED!11/09/10
  • Hi everyone I have enjoyed my first day of flying. The best bit was getting to 6pm and vacuuming still not done. Normally I would have given up (5yr and 20month old to put to bed) but I gave it a final go. 5 yr old DS got so involved he ended up polishing and being really pleased with himself. A great end to the evening so thanks again for the inspiration. Hope tomorrow goes just as well!:j

Froddy thank you, I'd never read that before, it's about right.

Thanks for the hugs, I didn't think it would hit me like it has, I think part of me is thinking oh no not again, when DS1 went through the whole process and was diagnosed it was appointment after appointment for 18 months, just a nightmare. Supposedly it's better now but that sour taste is still there and I am dreading the negative negative negative over and over. Anyway, shall not dwell, speaking to a speech therapist earlier (booked on a course starting tomorrow which I am quite looking forward too) she said the waiting list is quite long so might be a while before he's seen. Might get Xmas out of the way first....then it can start as I am trying to fit in studying, joys lol.

Right, anyway, I've done pretty much naff all, I was complimented on my perfect sewing at Beavers, so I confessed to the wondaweb :rotfl: I even rolled it thin to go round the edge of the badge so it's stuck all the way round. I got them in the right place too :D woohooo! I have done a few wash loads, there is 2 in the TD now (well the parts that can go in) children have been fed, DP still out so need to make our tea in a mo, going to tidy some of the kitchen as I go as it needs it, just stuff 'dumped' everywhere. DW has been on today. I think that's about all I have managed apart from the shopping :o

Hope you are all ok, I have tried reading through but it's going in the eyes and turning to jelly when it hits the grey matter.
One day I might be more organised...........

Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb
