Hi everyone, I will try again, and keep adding sentence by sentence as lost more posts into the ether than managed to post:eek:
Belated birthday wishes for yesterday to the birthday girls, the line yesterday frustrated me that much, I just called it quits and switched off.
To the question of full time workings being OS, as a now retired ex full time+ worker, first of all you need to determine what exactly do you want to do that is OS? What is your aims is it to give your families food you know where it has come from, rather than pre-made expensive junk? Is it purely a money saving desire, or is it a better quality of life?
First of all, I will confirm that you cannot do everything, and that to make any changes improvements, the whole family must back you and be there with you. It does not hurt kids to learn to peel spuds, do veg, or to turn on the oven. Neither does it hurt them to know as they get bigger to sort the washing in the basket out and put a load into the washer if they are home first. And probably my most controversial statement to the FTW and the SAH Mums/Wives that believe me cos DH is out at work means he has worked as hard or harder than you, and needs to come home and be waited on. I know going to work is easier than being at home any day of the week, especially with young child(ren). I will come clean here and admit that my DH is probably better round the house than I am, and certainly does and always has done more than his fair share:o . Being a domestic goddess is something I do not aspire to being and never will achieve anyway. When our son went to uni he could cook for himself (if he wanted) and knew how to sort the washing out. He can iron but have to turn my head away from him when I see the result :rotfl:
To give us time with my young son (many moons ago) (and on doctors orders after shingles) and time to do what we wanted later I had a cleaner + ironer, my salary was sufficient to cover it, and it was IMHO the best money we ever spent but it has to depend on circumstances.
I did and still do cook real food, but I think my best plan was always to cook double, and either freeze meals for another day/week or often we would just have the same meal two days running. I always cook extra mash potato, and freeze in ice cream scoop blobs the extra which can come out for a topping or a meal when time is short. The SC was my life saver, putting in the meat and veg as I went out before 7am and coming home to a gorgeous smell of food ready to eat.
Cooking for me is a means to an end, I prefer to be knitting, x-stitching, crocheting, or being on here:o . As I speak I have a ironing hill awaiting the inspiration for me to attack it.
OS while out here - well I cooked toast for breakfast, and made a ham and cheese sandwich for lunch. We ate out the last two nights with friends, but will eat in tonight, but bought a ready cooked chicken from the local stall as they stuff them with local herbs and taste so different to my cooking. I will do frozen chips with it (given to us by a neighbour who was going home and wanted them using up -waste not want not, and frozen peas from the same source). We did walk to the supermarket for the bread and the chicken (no BM here) SC has been on regularly though, and still managing to dry the washing outside. We have had to put the summer duvet on the bed now, and had some background heating in the lounge for 3 nights so far.
It will be our 35th WA on Monday and need to decide what we are doing that day yet, we have a meal planned with neighbours/friends out here for the 15th. We only have 4-5 days after that before we set off on the journey back to the UK. The time has flown again.
I have had fun with my knee again (not) and I am convinced that it is connected to the problem in my foot in June last year, but having daily physio atm, so hope it helps. DH went back for his blood test after doing extra walking, but his cholestral (sp) was lower, but not as low as they want so have put him on tables for 3 months. I had mine done before we came out and I got a 3.5 but he doesn't eat anything fatty, has low fat cheese, no butter or spread on anything, grilled/oven chips but only rarely - I cannot claim to be good at all.
I think that is enough M-ing for today, :grouphug: Jayward, Smoky (where are you?) Pen-Pin, Kaat, Mrs_Mix, P-W(& ds) and everyone else I've omitted. :grouphug:
:hello: All Newbies (forgive me forgetting the names)
 everyone else.
Take care - DG
Just for the record this has taken over an hour and 4 re-dials to achieve! I think the only thing I am looking forward to coming back to is the bband connection and watching Strictly.

Afternoon peeps
A belated Happy Birthday to Scuzz & Suesy Sue :bdaycake: hope that you both had a good time.
Aussie - I hope that you get good results from the protest, i hate the way that the councils don`t seem to care about people anymore, it`s all about money .
Redruby - I wish that my youngest dog would tiptoe around the puddles like yours, she launches herself straight into the middle of them - the bigger and muddier the better  I used two towels to dry her this morning and it wasn`t even raining
Kaat Lady - Hope that you feel better and not as bruised.
I`ve had a busy day today trying to clear the ironing mountain, it`s a lot smaller than it was but enough is enough, i shall iron 3 more pairs of trousers and call it a day as it will still be there tomorrow :rotfl:
Dinner tonight was supposed to be pasta but i just don`t fancy it atm, Mum brought me some parsnips to add to my parsnip mountain yesterday and also a very strange looking cauliflower from her veg box. It needs eating but i may just blanch & freeze it as i don`t feel like that either. Strange for me to feel like this with food.
We shall be taking Dad to the shops later so maybe we can pick up something later, definitely not os if it`s ready made but i have no idea what i would like so maybe DH can choose instead.
Catch up later peeps.

Afternoon everyone :hello:
I would have posted earlier, but my best friend 'phoned which meant that I was chatting for an hour.
Aussie - if you need a petition signing, just give it to us lot. I know, we'll all come over to Australia and help to protest.
It's been our farmers' market here today. I'm so predictable. I got to all the same stalls. I really must branch out! However, it's all so good that I don't know where I'd stop/start. Having said that, I need to do a meal plan as the store cupboard challenge that I'd set myself doesn't seem to be chipping into the stuff that I've got stored away.
Supper tonight is going to be chilli con carne (minced beef from the farmers' market, naturally). I use the Jamie Oliver recipe from his "Happy Days" book which is divine. DH reckons that Jamie stole it from me, but unfortunately I stole it from him.......
I've just put some more books on Readitswapit. I need to confirm a couple of swaps and post them on Monday. Added to that, wrapping all the Christmas presents that I've got so far.
Oh, and I'm being observed on Monday by the Numeracy advisor from the Local Authority so I need to sort out my resources from that lesson!
Have a good day all. Who is watching Strictly tonight? Austin to win!!! :beer:Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 declared0 -

I have been busy in the kitchen and have made my xmas cake:T I have also made a smaller one for DD1's upcoming birthday, she loves fruit cake and I am sure it was cheaper than buying one. i bought DD2 a sponge birthday cake from mr T last month and it was over £8
I have got some HM bolognaise sauce in the SC I will add it to some cooked pasta for tea along with some garlic dough balls ( thanks Diva)
I have just bought delias 'Frugal Food 'book and have decided to make her pork boulangerie - browned pork chops sandwiched between a layer of sliced potatoes and onion for Sunday lunch- yummy
I have scrubbed the kitchen and its all clean and shiny the rest of the house, well probably better not to say too much
hope everyone is ok x0 -
Evening all,
Not a good day here, I looked out the front window this morning and noticed a group of neighbours around my car, went out and they said that my car had been keyed overnight along with about 20 others in the road, , there is a 12 inch groove all along side the drivers door, some thug has obviously had a great time doing all the cars in the road, he has only done the newer cars, all the older ones have not been touched including my OH battered works van. There is an old boy down the road who is so nice and helps everyone down the road, and they have done his too I am fuming  , Its going to cost at the very least £100 to fix, and right on top of Christmas too  . I have reported it to the police, but they have said there is not a lot they can do.
Any hoo we went for a quick walk up the beach with little dog, and yes she avoided all the wet bits, , and came back as dry as she went, it was very cold there though, needed a bigger coat really.
Hope you all have good evenings, I am going to be having a large glass of vino :beer:0 -
Evening all,
Nothing much done to-day, went to get the rest of Ulick's birthday present for to-morrow....a wooden chopping block...what he wanted so would I refuse. Still have to buy for DS1 and Brother who share birthday on 11th, they are both impossible to buy for so may just buy them lunch at some stage!
Fish peas and baked spuds for dinner, followed by tea and biscuits, so nice and easy, DD3 and her BF were here just so that he could see new dog, who barked at him!
Hugs to all in need or want, congratulations to all who are celebrating

What horrid weather. Hope you are all warm and snug. Have had a tidy around today, managed to get DS to do some reading and homework, took him to a party and then swimming. Bought him a happy meal for tea, as I am still feeling rough and don't have much of an appetite. He won't get another one for at least 6 months!
My MIL is not well at all at the mo and had an operation on Thursday. She's in a hospital the other side of Kent, so visiting her is a nightmare. Turns out she had a twisted bowel. Think we are lucky to have her alive.
CANDYGIRL enjoy your peace, how lovely a DGD.
SISTERCAS the first cookbook I ever bought when I left home was Delia's, I still use it now.
Big hugs to anyone who needs one this evening.
Have a good night all

How do full timers do it? Not sure really so am interested to find out. What I do is compromise on what's less important to me and prioritise on what is. I rarely iron - not even sure where it is to be honest - but do prioritise on home cooked nutritious food. I often prepare veg etc the night before to give me a bit of a head start. the girls, 23 and 12, do help out with the cleaning but there again i prioritise the kitchen and bathroom. I work next door to a huge Mr T so shop on the way home for bargains. I suppose that because there's no one home in the day it's not getting any worse.
Bush market was great - picked up some plantain and hard dough bread which I will share with my friend in that she will cook the plantain and I will taste it. The primary purpose of the trip was to buy hats for dgs(3) - dd asked my opinion as there were several designs and she wanted two. my opinion was that they were very overpriced at £20 each for baseball caps but I was very proud of her when she negotiatied a discount of 20% for the pair. she saw loads of things she'd never seen before in the butchers - sheeps heads, goat, tripe, trotters - I'm afraid i'm too much of a squeamish ex-veggie to entertain anything like that but it was interesting. I also got some lovely fabric - black with skull and cross bones on it - which i will make into toy bags for dgs and dnephew who are mostly in Pirate World these days.
predictably all were underwhelmed by pie and mash so i've had 2 and a half portions - yumI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
Hello All,
Wasn't going to post as not really done much OS recently apart from the usual cooking, cleaning and washing etc but what prompted my post was I hope you all didn't think you were wishing me a happy birthday were youMy birthday isn't until April but there were so many different spellings I wasn't sure who you meant
Anyway hugs to those in need, try to keep warm everyone.

Evening  DS and his friend have decided to sleep in the living room, so DH has lit a fire in our bedroom, so I'm sat here warm and snuggly
I have missed Strictly, though  DS assures me that he's recorded it, so I hope he has for his sake
Aussie - how was the protestMy protest costume of choice is where my username comes from
Snowy - glad that Dylan is happy
Diva - no idea why I'm waking so earlyMy insomnia usually coincides with my waking with something on my mind; no so atm
So I'm getting up, having a cup of tea then back to bed for a couple of hours. I'm getting enough sleep overall, so not worrying
We swept loads of leaves today, and picked apples for the winter store. I made sausages, yorkshires and onion gravy for supper, and a cake. The boys had apple pie for pudding, and then found my chocolate stash  :rotfl:
Enjoy your evening, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0
