i am on a hill so should get a good pic with indoor one really.. got to go now , pick up on this tomorrow
Because you live on a hill, doesn't mean that an indoor aerial will work, it depends on many other factors.0 -
so basically= i need to 'get a man in'0

You really need a decent aerial on your roof. Simple as that:idea:0 -

Whatever turns you on...;)
But yes, you do seem to need the help of an Aerial Installer, be that a " man " or a woman.0 -

You dont (Sorry, missunderstood)
You need a SPLITTER connection near the aerial, which then feeds the one upstairs and the one downstairs
Bare in mind this will split the signal into 2 (Effectively halving the signal strength)
So first thing id do is use the tv downstairs to check what the signal strength is now:idea:0 -
Sky comes through a dish not an aerial so nothing to do with that.
Does the transmitter actual broadcast digital signals?
I can "see" two transmitters from my house - the one nearest only broadcasts four analogue channels the other broadcasts digital signals.
Sorry just re-read your post - do you get freeview okay downstairs? Is the cable upstairs actually connected to an aerial anywhere?0 -

freeview ok downstairs.. not got anything connected to tv upstairs, as i say, i tried my daughters aerial but still got new signal so i am looking for an indoor aerial really for my upstairs telly, i dont fancy faffing around splitting this and that and then getting reduced signal downstairs.x0 -

How can we spell this out simply, you need a decent aerial for digital reception unlike analogue where it is possible to get a picture with a poor aerial, digital will just give no signal unless you have an aerial that is capable of receiving a strong signal, the further you are from the TV transmitter the weaker the signal is and you require an aerial that is capable of pulling in a good signal.
Your downstairs TV works OK because you have the correct outdoor aerial, you have tried a indoor set top aerial on your upstairs TV and get no signal so there is no point in buying another indoor aerial, the choice is either get a second outdoor aerial or use the existing aerial and split the signal which could give you poor reception on your main TV in which case you may need an amplifier.0 -
