Just be warned the term Digital aerial is just a means to make you pay more.......An aerial is simply that....there is not such thing as a digital or analogue aerial ok
All you need to make sure depending where you live depends on the size of the aerial you need.......Though a new aerial will give you better reception as would new cable etcIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
i think the OP wants a recommendation for a new tv antennae plus coaxial cable for a self install. not really my subject, but i do know that aeriels can be wide band (pick up the full spectrum (ch 22-68) or narrow band to focus on a selective range (ie 35-50 etc). Also there is the question of gain, someone living under the transmitter would get a terrible picture using a high gain aeriel, as could someone 50 miles away with a low gain.
Really best asking a local tv engineer if you want to buy the best thing for your location.
FWIW I use a high gain, wide band antennae for my caravan, and rarely struggle to get a signal

If you plan to take down the old aerial and put a new one on the same mast - yes, should be no problem as long as the fixing kit can cope with the mast size - there are typically only 2 sizes used, so most will.
You ~might~ get away with using the old cable, but if it's old it's probably a lower spec than would be used today, as the upper reaches of the digital bandwidth range are higher than with analogue.
I personally would replace the cable unless it enters via a really awkward route.0 -

May I ask WHY your doin this?
Theres no such thing as a 'digital' aerial, all aerials are the same, but pick up in various 'bands'. So if its purely to pick up freeview', it will probably work as it is:idea:0 -
look at your neighbours houses.
if they are using the standard type aerials then you can use the same.
most houses dont need a high gain aerial for the new digital signals.
a lot of houses can even use a standard aerial in the loft.Get some gorm.0 -
