I'm a researcher working on a new consumer-affairs television series and I'm looking to hear your parking ticket stories - have you successfully challenged and managed to avoid paying a speeding ticket fine? What were the circumstances? What advice could you give to others?

I'd love to hear your stories. Please post a reply.

    Thanks guys,

    Sam
Go to pepipoo.com and ask there.

I recently got a PCN from a private firm looking after a supermarkets carpark. The reason was that I was parked in an unmarked bay! After researching on this site I found out that, as I was not the driver of the car, I was not repsonsible for the ticket. The contract for using a carpark is between the driver, the supermarket owner and the carpark company and NOT the owner of the car!

So, in future, if you get a PCN and you are not driving the car, but are the owner, appeal and don't pay upfront!

    Thanks
Nearly right but all an appeal does is to give them your name and address without paying £2.50 to DVLA., appeals never succeed.

  • My wife received a council issued fine today for parking in a residents only street parking space.

She had my two-year old son with her and was trying to find a parking space near the police station. There was no parking available for visitors so she parked in this residents only space for 10 minutes while she went and reported the crime at the police station. When she returned she had received a ticked for £70 reduced to £35 if she paid straightway.

Is there any likeliehood of appealing this successfully or should she just try and stomach it?

p.s. it hasn't been a great day for her, the crime being reported was someone scraping her car and then driving off.

Her best bet is to register on pepipoo.com and post on there. She will need a copy of both sides of the ticket, remove identifying details, and include in the post. a link to the relevant Google street view of the bays would help. Read the stickies on there on how to post pics there. Camera/mobile set on macro/closeup will suffice if no scanner available.

  • Thank you so much for helping with my parking ticket. I used your form letter and recieved a reply just a week later saying that the ticket had been cancled. What a result. Thanks :T
  • Just a quick note. Used the parking template, changed a few things because I WAS AT FAULT. I was parked in residents only bay, in North London, displaying a scratch card visitors voucher. I had scratched off the 1 & the 8 & not the 18. Quite rightly I was diplaying an invalid voucher. Quie rightlly the PCN was issued. Using the MSE parking template, accepted that it was an error on my part, scanned in the parking voucher & also a copy of my one day travel card as proof of arrival at the tube station & date. I suppose that I could have used the same voucher on the 1st & then waited to use the same one on the 1-8th (as if) They accepted my appeal & told me not to do it again. I was in the wrong, but just a small bit of Northern tenacity, a soupcon of humility & the all but necessary dash of MSE.
Many thanks Martin & all at MSE
  • Dear all,

Looking for some advice. I admit that I aprked on double yellows one morning whilst running into Tescos ( a lot of us have done it haven't we?) when I came out literally a few mins later an enforcement officer from Council was stood next to Car. He saw me and I said sorry mate and he went 'no bother' and walked off without issuing a ticket.

I now have a leter from Cardiff Council telling me I have ignored previous notices (which I never had) and tellimg me that if I don't pay 70 quid by 23rd September the fine is raised again!!

As I did not get a ticket in the first place surely I have grounds to appeal? If I have is there any info to go about this on this website?

I wouldnt have minded paying 25 if I had to but to tell me that I have not paifd pevious notices which I never recieved is a bit off I think.

I'd start your own thread Antony. What was the first you heard of this fine? What have they sent you - a PCN, a Notice to Owner, a Charge Certificate or a custom letter?
