How about pointing him in the direction of a rescue cat who needs a loving home? Sounds as if his heart is in the right placeMy first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead

Tho just the fact anyone is breeding right now says alot IMO. (And yes, I do know some breeds NOT all can't be outside, but they can be in a secure garden & should be)
How do you 'secure' a garden? Cats can climb?0 -

It's hard to describe but the top of the fencing has an overhanging bit so they can't get over it, I don't know how much it'd cost in general to secure a garden, I guess it'd depend on the size of the garden, the part of the country etc but it can definitely be done, there's been some excellent articles in Your Cat mag on it also. There's probably other ways too i'm sure. There are many breeds I wouldn't let out, but I can't see why secure gardens or outside areas can't be sorted, the ex's Mum had what was like a huge cat pen attached to her house, kind've like Catteries have & they could go in there when she opened the patio doors to get some fresh air & watch the world go by.0 -

Yes this did occur to me too but I think his sister (who lives with him) won't let him have a cat (ironically) she didn't seem to pleased about the fact that they have a garden full of cats on a regular basis... and was on my side lol!
Apparently the next door neighbour is a bit fed up with it too.0 -
Awww well i'm sure he wants the best for the Cat & thought he was being kind, I bet years back it was the done thing to stick milk & so on down for them. He sounds like he'll listen to you & you can work it out together! And as you say, you have a cat sitter too!0

Oh yes I see what you mean 'a bit that bends over at top of fence' I see how that could stop them getting over it but I don't have fencing all around my garden it's tall trees and shrubs mostly.
A cat pen would work I suppose but it just seems too late in his life/routine now to keep him penned in.
I can see the look on his face now as he looks at me in disgust through the mesh lol!0 -
lol i've had mine in for 47hrs now due to her having an anaesthetic on Wednesday, she can go back out @ 6 & has been going mental being caged in but she has been an outdoors cat all her life too! She probably will spend the night out in a huff now, maybe she'll go elsewhere for tea lmao0
