For my Dad's 50th, I got him 50 presents! Some were really silly cheap things like a pencil, or keyboard duster. Others were better-a cross stitch all framed up, some DVD's.
Didn't repeat this for my mum though. I came up with another idea-each letter of the alphabet represented a present and I did little clues in envelopes for them. Took ages to open, but it was great fun!
How about making up a CD of songs that were Number 1 on her birthday?Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

If you search for 1959 on ebay you will probs come up with some ideas, may be a set of coins from the year like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LUCKY-1959-SIXPENCE-COIN-KEYRING-50TH-BIRTHDAY-GIFT-WOW_W0QQitemZ140322813600QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL?hash=item20abe436a0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1684|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50
or even a magazine like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FILMS-AND-FILMING-MAGAZINE-DEC-1959-FRED-ASTAIRE_W0QQitemZ220422898099QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Magazines?hash=item33523a81b3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1687|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A500 -

This site will help with finding the songs.
If you do the 50 gifts, watch your budget and buy silly things from places like Wilkinsons and HB! Even a little choccie bar can count as a pressie-you might get that desperate!:rotfl:

My daughter wants to do a Sex and the City themed hamper for her friend, we already have some fancy cocktail glasses and am going to put some minatures with them to make Cosmopolitan cocktails, and of course some umbrellas and a shaker and thought maybe a pink tray to put everything on.......but I need some other bits to pad it out a bit, would be grateful if anyone has any suggestions.

Yep! I remember the day I needed to get everything bought so I could wrap them. My friend and I were running round Wilkinsons buying all kinds of odd things. And the set of 4 Snoopy tumblers from the Pound shop became 4 gifts to save time & money...:rotfl:It was fun though.Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27

Here's the pic of the SATC hamper I did for my best friend at Christmas. The DVD of the film is only £3.99 on Play at the moment (penny cheaper on Amazon)-assuming she doesn't already have it! The TV soundtrack-pictured-is just under £3 on Amazon and the 2 movie CD's are under £5 each.
The cocktail mix I found in B&M bargains and it was under £2, I think (can't find my post with the details in!). Home Bargains might have some suitable things, if there's one nearby.
How about an ice cube tray, or those plastic ice cubes you pop in the freezer? A cocktail recipie book?Cross Stitch Cafe Monthly Challenge Member #27
