  • Ooh had forgot about Time Out bars :)

    Thanks!
  • Hi there _ i originally posted this as a new thread, but now wondering if better here as this seems to be where you all exchange ideas - I hope you can help!

I'm trying to put together a sweetshop themed hamper for my 12 year old niece. I want it to be based on sweets but I don't want it to contain any actual sweets. To explain: I've been trying to think of ways of adapting journal in a jar, ball of life, the penny jar etc and that was how I came up with the sweetshop idea.

So far I have come up with:

"Love Hearts" - I've found a notebook with Love Hearts printed on the cover for her to use as a journal.
Jelly Belly Beans - I got a Jelly Belly Bean pencil case and filled it with coloured pencils.
Gobstopper - I'm going to do a variation of the Ball of Life.
Penny Mixture - this will be the Penny Jar
Pic n Mix Midget Gems - a variation of the journal in a jar as I have the pic n mix boxes already at home - the idea will be to pick a midget gem each day/week (depends on how many I can fit in the box) which will have a journal prompt on it and then use Love Hearts journal to write it in.
Pic n Mix Crunchie - a variation of the journal jar again (I've 2 pic n mix boxes) that I've called Buzz Words. Its like a word of the day that she will have to use either in a story in her journal or to incorporate into her day verbally. She then has to write how she has done that - like another journal entry. I'm not sure about the name and the Crunchie association, so I might rename this to "Smarties".
Curly Wurly - she has really curly hair so I would include shampoo and conditioner to suit - I think this one is a bit naff but I was running out of ideas!
Chocolate(s)/Boiled Sweets - I'm looking for lip glosses that look like chocolates or sweeties (not sure that will work but I'll keep looking).

If you can think of any other ideas around this theme I would really appreciate hearing from you.

  • I've being reading this forum for a while now and have decided to make my mum a "holiday hamper" for her birthday i have got her a swimsuit, some vest tops and a pair of shorts from the sale. I've also picked up a travel alarm clock, mini fan, flight socks and a puzzle book. I'm going to get some sweets for the plane but after that i am stuck for ideas now. She already has a passport holder and luggage straps.

    thanks in advance

*cough* I bought them as a kit from asda - they were £1.25 for the kit and then you decorate them yourself ... they were at the end of the bread aisle and fresh bread in my local ... sorry I cannot cook gingerbread to save my life and so cheated :o The silver balls were our own though lol

  • Hi, just thought I would share ... I bought 2 wooden baskets - quite big and 100% perfect for hampers! 99p from 99p stores - might be worth a look if you have one near you! Also, I noticed in Wilkinsons they had quite a lot of storage solutions and that was where I found a 16L blue box - which I will use as my valentine's hamper box (will fit plenty in) for £2.50. I was shopping in Coventry today and they were also handing out Lynx mini sprays free from a Lynx stand ... I bagged two and was really pleased as they can now go in my valentine's hamper!

Also, found some socks from poundland "Mr Lover Lover" for valentine's hamper! I also bought Disney (Winnie the Pooh) Teether, 2 pack Winne Pooh Dummies, Tommee Tippee 4 baby jars with lids from Poundland too for my friend's new baby hamper!
Mummy to a beautiful 4 month old princess! x
