No that sounds just about right for me!! Thanks guys will try and post the links later when I dont have three kids hanging off my arm!! x
  • Thanks to 'Kandiipandi' I made 2 home movie hampers today. I was really chuffed with them... thanks again Kandi for sharing your idea and helping inspire me. I made one each for my niece and nephew (twins who were 18 today)

I got the DVD boxes from Poundstretcher (Instore) £2.49 each but were on 3 for 2 offer (they had pale pink, black, white and cream)

I went into my favourite shop (Home Bargains) and bought big red plastic tubs of popcorn (99p) and individual crisp size bags of original flavour pringles.

I had already bought some cider and wine and I put a personalised lable on the bottles.

Also included were a block of personalised chocolate and a plain glass jar for each of them filled with celebrations with a personalised treats lable.

And last but not least Kandi's great idea of a blank dvd case with their Birthday money inside.

I bought a roll of the white spot sellophane and a couple of rolls of poly ribbon from a local florist and then came the mammoth task of trying to wrap them lol. Do you sellotape the sides to make them look presentable as I ended up doing this with mine to try and get it to look right lol.

I made my own pom pom bows with the poly ribbon and I was pretty pleased with how they turned out.

I also gave them each an A4 size personalised credit crunch gift certificate .. which basically had 18 x 1p coins stuck on it in the shape of a number 18.

I will post the pics in the next few days as soon as I get chance to upload them.

Thanks again for sharing your brilliant ideas.

I am new to posting pics so apologies for the order and quality of them etc. I have included a pic of the bookatrix card and box I made for my niece (It has a stand for it as well) I didn't make the fimo numbers on it, I bought these off a web site, the lady who makes them is so nice and helpful.

I am new to wrapping things with cellophane as well ... any tips anyone can give would be much appreciated... are you supposed to use sellotape to close the gaps at the side - I did as they didnt look quite right but perhaps I was doing it wrong!
Thanks again pandi for the inspiration, the twins loved them!

They are brilliant :T - you have been busy - I bet she treasures them as you can see the time and effort that hads gone into them.

Your hampers are terriffic too. I also used a good deal of sellotape as no matter what I always had a gap.

Keep up the good work and now you can post pics we want to see them all! :rotfl:

  • Thanks Kandi and Mary for your kind words and reassurance that I was ok in using sellotape on the cello wrapping.

My dvd cover is no-where near as nice as yours Kandi but it did as a first attempt lol and saved doing a gift card. I always leave things til the last minute so was waiting of the glitter glue to dry on the card before I could take it over ... just caught them before they went out to celebrate their birthday.

I was attempting to take the glass off the little bottle of wine so I could personalise the lable only to find out the glass was also the bottle top so I got a unexpected shower lol.

I actually managed to make one of those oragami shirts with the £20 note as well but I decided although it was great for my nephew it might not be for my niece, so I am going to save that idea til xmas for him and put a cryptic comment with it (going to put a box within a box, with layers, etc and add a note saying something like now he is 18 I think he should start dressing more appropriately and hope he likes the enclosed shirt I have chosen especially for him)
  • cumbrian - those are wonderful, well done! May still the credit crunch idea for my sisters 18th!

Also use lots of tape here too!
    Debt free wannabe
Littlewoods - £214.82 (DD set up so 0%)
    Very - £100 (0% on BNPL - 1/4/13)
    CC - £2600/£3533.53 (0% until 1/6/14)
  • I got lots of the new shiny pennies as I thought they looked nicer and stuck them on with white tack.

I wanted to put it thru the laminator til my husband said NO WAY lol. I got the pack of A4 size envelopes from poundland.

I also made them a 'basics' birthday card if you get what I mean but not sure whether I can put that on here because of the branded name lol
  • thought I'd mention that M&S have a lot of their smellies at £1 and on 3 for 2 - got 3 500ml of bubble bath for £2 - 2 for me and free one for my mums hamper :D
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended :p
