junior - just have to say 'well done' :T Pity more young people aren't like you.............so many seem to be grab -grab or I want.
I hope you're proud of yourself -you should be...........:T

98 - can't help you with the verse but if you type Ditties in the search box at the top something might come up on that thread. Like the 25 jokes.........nice idea:T

I've never made a hamper before, but it's my sisters 27th birthday on Saturday and after seeing the piccies thread i'm inspired to make her a nice one. I don't usually get her a present so she won't be expecting it, and it'd be more from my son than me.

The problem is, my budget, i've no disposable income this month so if i could make one for about a fiver i'd be happy but i doubt this is possible??

I don't think i have much lying around i could use, but i'll certainly have a look, i might have some candles, and i might have some Avon samples left over from when i was a rep a long time ago, but apart from that, any good ideas, or recent bargains spotted? I have Asda, Morrisons and Tesco nearby.

Hi Beeniecat I had a very short budget too, so I went to the pound shops. I looked for things that had more than 1 in the pack like bath stuff. Then I made it look all nice in the box. I had some baskets already at home so it made it easier.

Both my grans and my mums hampers came in at a fiver each, my dd's was a tenner. HTH

Beenie - have a look at the Gifts in a Jar thread..........loads of things on there you can create for next to nothing.
A Journal in a Jar seems acceptable to most age groups.......just a case of printing out a load of questions and providing a book for the answers (bit like a life history type of thing) Can't remember the link but think its www.organisedchristmas or something like that, where you'd find prompts for questions. You can get cheap books from Tesco and cover the front and back of them with nice paper to make them a bit special.
Safe Keeping jar is another one that's cheap..........I did several of these.
Any kitchen jar will do, put a toilet roll middle in the centre (cut a piece to stick to the base of it first)........fill the outside with dried beans or rice......create a label and a pretty lid and it's somewhere to hideaway a spare key/fiver etc.
Pot of gold is another good one.............any gold coloured/wrapped sweets would do, either in a pot or small dish and then wrapped.........pop in a lottery ticket or scratch card for good luck.
There are some little verses to go with these it you put 'ditties' in the Search box.
Hope this helps. I'm sure people will have loads more ideas

    Thanks to both of you.

I think i will have a look in the £ shops and charity shops if i get chance during my lunch breaks this week and try and go for a pamper theme, she had her 2nd baby recently so that would go down quite well i think.

I have seen the pot of gold ideas too they're brilliant, i'm going to do one for my mother and one for my sis at Christmas so a big thank you to rainmac (i think) who first posted these.

I'll let you know how i get on! I wish i'd paid more attention to these parts of the forums before now, as i would have been able to plan ahead and get some decent hampers done. They're not the sort of thing you can do in a hurry and still stay moneysaving i don't think, seems best to get bits together as and when you see the best bargains.

I've got loads in mind now for this year and next just by reading these forums for a few hours :D

One more thing, and i'm sure this has been asked and answered many times in this thread - but where's the best place to buy cellophane? I'm looking on eBay and the measurements are foreign to me as i've no idea how much i'll need.
  • this was my first basket, its a first trimester one, i was just going to give her some quesypops but then remembered this thread so turned it into a hamper with the kangaroo from WTP with a joey, gingernuts and crystalised ginger
