Hi Kandipandi :hello: can I ask what kind of choc did you use? I wasnt sure what cheaper stuff is good at melting. I know cadburys isnt any good. And I wasnt sure how nice cooking choc would be. Ive seen Dr Oetkers stuff but havnt tasted it, maybe this would be middle of the road
It was a mixture of morrisons own white label choc and Asda's own make choc, they melted lovely and they tast very good too, not like that scotbloc rubbish. And I am a big chocolate fan, the fact that they have lovely maltesers in and real smarties helps too.

    Jess,

I did something similar for my Mum for her birthday (she was born in 51). I did a retro sweets box (check out the thread on here somewhere) with sweets from the 50s and 60s - googled this although I still have the 60s list if you'd like it. Basically put all the sweets into one of those compartment boxes from Woolies (£1 - or 80p with the discount) cost me about £3.50 ish for the whole thing. I put that into a CD box (not really related but she needed one!!) with some memories of her life - printed off google earth pics of her childhood home and current home, pic of my nan and grandad in a pretty frame, photo keyring of her and my dad on holiday, photo book of all the pics she's taken in the last year (they've been stored on my computer for ages!), a spare memory card for her digital camera (for new memories), a jive bunny cd (she was into rock and roll), fiddler on the roof dvd (worked for a jewish family and did a lot of am dram), scottish shortbread (worked in scotland), 2 rainbow candy canes (ran a rainbow group), brownie mix (was a brown owl for years) and lined the box with some tartan fabric (again Scotland and also policed a Bay City Rollers concert in Wembley). Hope this gives you some ideas!

Does any one know what i can get my mum for her hamper

She loves smellies but always gets loads for xmas anyways..
She loves chocolate but again gets loads from other people..
She loves jewlerry but dad always buys her that..

She was born in 59 so i would love to get her things from her childhood.. or around her teens.. music she has already got so that idea is out the window..

    Thanks in advanced.

I'm doing a nostalgia hamper for my sister, and have found an excellent website called http://www.doyouremember.co.uk/ which has loads of good stuff on it. Think it covers 60s through to 90s.

Thanks everyone! All your ideas are inspireing and i can not wait now to start her hamper!

I am off to primarkmark and pounds lound on saturday , cant wait to see what bargains i can pick up whilst i am their!

I just wrote down , who i am buying hampers for / how much it will cost , and although in the long run i think i will save a few ££ im still worried it could end up working out more expensive! Did everyone else feel like this before their hampers were done? or is it just me over thinking lol!

I am looking forward to doing the retro sweet thing for her! sad thing is her mother died when she was 18 and her dad dint keep anything from her childhood like pictures.. so i dont even know what my mum looked like as a child.. so i really want to create as many childhood positive memories for her! she deserves it!

No I know exactly what you mean! I am stressing that I may have got caught up in the idea of hampers and have maybe spent loads! Must sit down and work it out so I can sleep at night!! I discovered my first Wilkinsons today! How fab!! Had waited two hours(!!!!) to see my neurologist (I have MS, and am not too well at the mo) so we missed our train home and had to waste two hours in Gloucester. So I treated myself to a load of lovely baskets (£1.99 up to £3) which OH then had to carry home in the rain! And Worcester was mad busy as we have the Victorin Fayre on this weekend! A looooong day! Also got a few nice bargains to go in hampers, like gorgeous coloured notepads, folders and pens for my little cousins.

    Morning all :D ...

Panic is over, last year in the sale I bought 2 disney sacks for £5 from the disneystore sale (RRP £15 each!!!) anyway I managed to loose them but OH looked in the loft last night and no luck, I have however managed to find them in the garage in a housey moving box (yes I still have loads of my things in the garage in boxes as no space!) so I feel happier now! Today I plan to go upto home bargains and see if I can get a few bits and bobs for the stockings and some more beer for OH's beer advent calendar.

Kandi your chocky looks fabulous ;) well done :D

Right must dash the ironing isn't going to do itself :(

Shame you didn't have 2 hours to kill in Stroud-they have a Home Bargains! I'm from Gloucester, although live in London now. Will be down there for christmas, though, as my family still live there.

You think you had a panic on? I can't find the stockings I made for my two boys for their first Christmases 18 and 10 years ago respectively, or the Cross Stitch Advent Calendar I made for the little one's first Christmas  !
We've never not used them - it's tradition  .
