plug the laptop into the router using the ethernet cable that comes supplied with the router.
Then click start, click run, type in cmd or command, then type ipconfig. This should give you a list with different information, an IP address and the default gateway. The default gateway is the address of the router, type that into the Internet Explorer window and let us know what happens.0 -
thanks gypsy - am going to do that now....0

well your laptop isn't picking anything up from the router.
click start, settings, control panel, network connections,
In there you should have a list of all your network devices. under Lan or High Speed Internet you'll have something that says 'local area network'. Does is say disabled under the status column? if so right click it and enable. also do the same for the wireless connection.0 -
what do you know - the laptop power has gone so i am charging it - now, i thought i could use it while it was being charged but it wont come on....aaarrghghghgh - wish id never bought it....thanks for your help anyway hun....i will try the above and post back when i am able to - i must have to charge the battery before i can use it now....
also, i have found a belkin usb 10/100 ethernet adapter - does this go with the router im using?
thanks0 -
you can usually use a laptop when it's charging, maybe you've just broken it

The 10/100 jobbie will be if you're no network card in the machine. If your network port isn't disabled then try plugging that in and plugging the ethernet cable into that and see what it gives you.0 -
god i think i have broke it - it wont come on0
