BMI Cancels Manchester - Vegas/Chicago and Barbados

You know what I actually have flown Delta & Continental and enjoyed both flights however I was in business class on all my journeys and unfortunately I got rather spoilt.
I think what has got my goat is the fact I really wanted to fly in PE to either NYC or Vegas as a treat for my OH 40th direct from MAN but I cant afford Business class this time so my only options out of Manchester are economy. My holiday starts at the airport and I always try to arrange what I can afford at that time its just a shame I dont seem to have many options anymore.
Maybe I need to start contacting Delta & Continental to champion a PE section LOL
Do these two airlines fly the same planes? I'm thinking from an economy comfort level ? LOL0 -
I'm happy with the flights I now have but I'm still writing to be BMI. I don't expect them to do anything but I want to let them know I don't think the matter has been handled well and they have therefore alienated a previously happy customer. Hopefully American will maintain it's Manchester Chicago flight as the onward connections to the western USA are good. There are still some decent airlines flying out of Manchester it's just there is a limit to the destinations available without multiple stops.
I hate Heathrow! Arriving home after a long-haul night flight and knowing you've still got to transfer to the shuttle to Manchester is horrible. I think a lot of the airlines added routes in the good times and are now having to reduce them to survive so things may change again in the future, who knows? Also if Heathrow doesn't get another runway the airlines may have to look further afield. I just home Manchester doesn't descend into just having seasonal charter flights and budget airline like so many other regional airports.0 -
Just to let you know im still on with it.
Expedia are a nightmare at the moment, I called 4 times and was put on hold and forgot about while they spoke to right department (was on hold for 10-15 minutes) must have spent a fiver on phonecalls (its 10p a minute).
They are meant to be phoning me back tommorow but I doubt they will and I will have to spend more money on phone calls, its a hassle I dont need and they should be contacting me not the other way around.0 -
In the main the reason bmi have pulled these flights is the poor performance of the premium cabins. The fur coat and no knickers brigade of Hale , Knutsford , Prestbury , Alderley Edge etc cannot be seen by their neighbours when they're sitting in bmi business class whereas the Mercs , BMWs and Audis that sit in their drives can.0

No time to check if its still true but certainly it always used to be a lot more expensive to land at Manchester than at Heathrow or Gatwick. the idea was always to get Manchester to take the load off the london airports so why Mancheter ended up as being just about the most expensive airport in the world to land a plane always baffled me.0

Best expedia could offer me were some continental flights which I was not intrested in, due to the fact that I will probably be able to pick these up closer to when I want to go for less than I paid BMI. so Ive taken the refund.0

Sounds like typical Expedia lazyness. I think you have made the right decision with the refund. A bit of shopping around should hopefully get you want for a better price. Good luck with flight hunting!0 -

Thanks
Anyway with the pound dropping like it has since I booked it it may be for the best anyhow, so I can see how it is next year closer to the time.0 -
Well still wating for my money back from expedia originally quoted 2 weeks which has now turned into 12 weeks, expedia keep saying will call be back when they have spoken to BMI and then they never do.
Is there anything I can do I booked with a credit card, I just dont like them holding my money for this long without me seeing anything for it, not to mention the money its costing me with phonecalls ect.0 -
I was told 8 to 10 weeks for a refund as I booked via Trailfinders. It's BMI not the travel agent that makes you wait so long. I've written to BMI and am still waiting for a reply although they have acknowledged receipt. Depending on their reply I'm going to get in touch with my credit card provider and see what they can do. i can see no reason for them to hold onto the money for so long other than to make interest on my cash as if they haven't inconvenienced me enough already.0
