BMI Cancels Manchester - Vegas/Chicago and Barbados

Do not wait for them to contact you, be procative
This post on Flyertalk shows what bmi have in place to offer you.
The earlier you hound them the better offer you may get.
Persoannly I'd be calling them every day!
Thanks for that looking at that if you want the Virgin Flight it looks like they will fly you to Gatwick?
Also whos best to call as I booked with Expedia.0 -
Cade I would try Expedia first as BMI are supposed to be dealing with customers who booked through a TA first. I would look at what else is available and have a think what you'd prefer before you ring so you are prepared. I specified I was not prepared to make multiple changes and did not want to arrive at my final destination later than my original flight. However this could not be done so I got a refund and booked myself another flight (which was slightly cheaper than I originally paid and arrives earlier). My case was more complicated as I was flying into San Francisco and out of Las Vegas and I had to be back in Manchester early in the morning on my return. No one carrier seemed able to provide what I wanted so I'm going out with BA and back with American. If you've got a return to Las Vegas Virgin may be your most straightforward option. I've gone off Virgin as their service standards have slipped considerably. BMI always had good service, it's such a shame for the staff who've lost their jobs. I'd get onto Expedia ASAP to make sure they do something soon as other flights will fill up and you want to have some choice in the matter.0

A colleague at work who has been affected by the withdrawl of the Chicago service was offered Delta initially by the TA he booked it through.
The TA denied there was any option but this or a refund. He sent them through the bmi documentation (as posted on Flyertalk) and amazingly enough he was able to get BA instead via Heathrow which is what suited him best.
As blindman has said, be persistent and don't accept any rubbish that is quoted by a TA or the call centre at bmi. (The call centre is outsourced and can often be the LAST place that good information will come from)
The full list of airlines listed should be made available subject to the end destination of the customer. As long as it is an airline featured in the list, then push for it. bmi are inconveniencing passengers with the changes, but have worked hard to get a broad range of replacement airlines and routes. Don't let lax customer service inconvenience you further.0 -

from Manchester to the USA/Canada from next May onwards?
As far as I can tell:
- Newark (Continental)
- New York JFK (Delta)
- Chicago (American)
- Philadelphia (US Airways)
- Atlanta (Delta)
- Orlando (Virgin)
- Orlando Sanford (various charters)
Have I missed any?

PIA
Air France
Both goto New York direct from Manchester
Just to add I have also written to BA and I intend to write to BMI too, to voice my disgust that are pulling their MAN - USA flights. Ok so Manchester doesnt pull in as much revenue - but the British public want options and since they have BA flying out of 5 London airports is this not like putting all their 'eggs into one basket' I for one will not travel down to that Heathrow hell hole at ANY cost......I just hope Virgin, Delta & Continental continue with their services from Manchester !!
Shame on you BMI & BA .......... BA the UK flagship airline ? pah0 -

I live in London and haven't flown bmi for over 7 years!
It is going to be interesting how popular Emirates becomes from regional airports for trips going east, south east, south and south west from the UK.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Its just really sad that our options in the North West are dwindling, were in the center of the country for gods sake !!
I used to fly to NYC with BA although I dont mind Delta or Continental they dont have a PE option.
Same with BMI - Was about to book a trip next year to Vegas for a suprise for my OH, wanted to fly direct and also PE - looks like we'll be off to NYC instead with Delta or Continental economy. Oh well .....
My dream would be for Richard Branson to come along and introduce a MAN-NYC daily flight now that would be good !! I've used the MAN-MCO a number of times and its been great. Just can understand at least 10 virgin flights leave London for NYC daily yet there are none from Manchester WHY?? The Orlando flight is always busy.0 -

Air France is a Delta codeshare on a Delta plane.
Manchester is unprofitable for BA on the NY routes, they are not a charity. They make money on the Business Class passengers who subsidise all you lot in the back. Do you really think BA makes a profit on £250 7 hour return flights?
I can only count BA flying out of 3 London airports, am I missing something.
As an (ex) Manc, I feel a great deal of sympathy, but to be honest with Emirates, Qatar, Etihad & Singapore Airlines flying from there you already have some of the worlds best airlines offering amazing route networks, meaning Manchester is in a better state than it was when I was there, for sure. But I rarely fly West anyway.0 -
'All you lot in the back' I beg your pardon ???? You certainly are a very EX Manc arent you, get of your high horse.
I happen to be lucky enough to travel all classes however If you think that by moving all flights to London at a cheaper rate is going to convince Northerners to travel to London to fly to the USA then I think you're sadly mistaken.
So BA flies out of 3 only and not all 5 awww thats a shame, how about zero !! Not much of a flagship airline is it ??
You maybe right about the other airlines however this thread is about flying west not east.......Go and get your Northern spirit back !!!!0 -

I was being inclusive in that 'you lot' so no need to take umbrage
. No high horse here!
However, it remains a fact that US flights are so competitive in economy that the vast majority of 'us' are subsidised by those in Business / First / Premium Economy, and there weren't enough of those people flying out of Manchester.
There were other issues, such as the stationing of a single 767 at Manchester (which extends beyond how unproductive the single aircraft is, it can't be redeployed to other destinations, there needs to be specialist crew based there etc), the timings of the flights being unsupportive for business travellers (who at least if they fly from Gatwick have the option of flying back into Heathrow, which won't appeal to Mancs).
Go and support Continental and Delta instead! BA couldn't make these routes profitable, lets hope they can!
And no, I agree with you 100% BA is not a British airline anymore! Still, what can you do? We're coming off the tail end of a golden age in air travel that has seen Manchester off more routes to more destinations at better prices than it ever has.
It's a real shame that British Midland (or bmi) didn't hold the 'Midland' bit so dear to them.
P.S Well done on flying in 'all classes'.0
