The house price crash comes home to roost for Phil Spencer

I think Homes Under the Hammer and Property Ladder will keep going, but we will see an end to L,L,L type shows where the emphasis was 'get on the ladder', and 'buy this and make a profit when you sell'. I honestly think most people have lost their appetite for shows that ramp up the market and are all about money. In these straightened times there will be a return to old-fashioned values and seeing your house as a home, not an investment.
Well, for a bit anyway, then it will all start again.0 -
The HutH flat today was a boo-boo-buy.
A nicotine-stained, filthy old first-floor, one-bed flat in Penfold Place, Marylebone.
Guideprice of £155k; woman bought it for £251k, oops - got over-excited and so had to pay £8k stamp duty. Which annoyed her. Then, excitement over, she said she thought she paid too much and should have stopped at £230k.
She spent £13k doing it up. So at this point we have 251+8+13=£272k
Enter the cheesy agents. One said it was worth £265-270k. Admittedly the other one said "put it on for just under £300k", which she seized on with glee. However, Lucy pointed out that if you believe the first agent then a loss would be realised.
The buyer said "... sit on it long enough, get rent for 2-3 years, hopefully the price will be better"
Here's the LR entry - number 23

Looking at Rightmove, there's one on with Foxtons in that block, £285k.

I hope Grand Designs stays but the rest of them can go jump under a bus as far as I care.--
Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -

I do think you have a problem with prices dropping, just from the tone and content of your posts, it doesn't please you does it, admit it. As for 70% drops, you can agree or disagree, but I am only monitering my small area and unless someone waves a magic wand, they WILL fall 70%. There are 50% drops already on some properties and this STILL makes them 100% more expensive than they were 6 years ago. And guess what...they are not being 'snapped up' by btl'ers because they are still falling and the market is flooded with rental properties the owners can't sell. So it's all good news.
I hate generalisation, so when you say prices won't do this or that as a blanket statement, yes it does annoy me. And I enjoy links posted to news stories or rightmove houses because this informs me....why did it upset you so much ?. You should keep an open mind. Anyway as Fc says it's good to hear all sides.
Fc...I really laughed...He doesn't know !!!!!! has a dog...you were joking right. :rotfl: A x
What I find bizzare is that I havn't got a clue who these people are Krusty/Kirsty the peron who has gone bankrupt etc but you lot seem experts on these housey programmes. I sometimes think you lot are the only ones who watch them.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -

I'll let you off and view it as brief attack of....indigestion, or something.

There's nowt so queer as folk.......much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Phil Spender is a shyster of epic proportions. It's just a pity he isn't the "one member of staff being made redundant."0

fc, cant say I fancy Phil - but then he probably wouldnt fancy me either. I think its the voice that gets my goat - oh and on a trail for something or other where celebs were asked what "annoys you the most about your (tv) partner" - Krusty said it was his erm constant "wind" problems  My OH fancies Beeney aswell - I think its not a case of a well stuff wallet with her, more a case of the over stuffed jumpers.
Steve I wish youd stop doing that, its as bad as strobe lighting.0
