I oven bake from cold, take it out the oven with one hour to go, remove the skin, score the fat, plaster it with mustard & brown sugar, stud it with cloves and finish the cooking. You could use honey plus brown sugar for a more intense caramel flavour, I think?Val.0

I've bought a pork shoulder enough to feed four, it's on the small side, how long should I roast it for and at what temperature, please?
I bought honey and demerera sugar to glaze it with .. do I need to melt them together in a pan for the glaze..and do I need to score it before I put it in, or an hour before the end??
(Total novice cook here!!!) thankyou0 -
i have just put a 3.7 kg ham in my slow cooker im hoping that 5 hours and then a good blast in the oven should be ok ?????
i have to be able to slice it ...........0 -
Done the ham many times and do always boil in fresh orange then coat in honey and mustard and put in oven for 45 mins. As tomorrow I am doing it to take with us I was thinking of boiling it today and leaving it to cool then coat it and do it in the oven tomorrow but for about an hour. Has anyone tried it or will it dry out too much?0

I know there's a lot of threads already but I need specific advice:). I have a small gammon (750g) that I want to cook, it want it so it falls apart rather than slices neatly, I prefer it like that. My Mum's turned out like this today but I can't ring and ask her as she's had a few glasses of sherry and will probably be incoherent by now:D. So boil or roast, and for how long? Thanks for any advice.0

I put mine in the slow cooker and pour in some boiling water and add some honey. I leave mine for 8 hours and it just melts in the mouth.MFW 2019 #61: £13,936.60/£20,0000

I don't have a traditional slow cooker (well, I do but it's tiny!), instead I use an Intellichef which has "stew" mode. I don't know what that equates to, thoughHopefully someone else with more slow cooker knowledge will be along in a minute to help.
I've tried adding mustard in the past but never been able to get the mustard taste into the ham. I usually use a good dollop of honey (a couple of heaped tbsp at least) and you can taste it, although it's a subtle sweetness.MFW 2019 #61: £13,936.60/£20,0000
