Rip Off Ryanair. Please Help Me!

I disagree....
A 1p flight is a bargain.
A £32 for using a debit card is a rip off.
The package at (of a 1p flight and a £32) £32.01 is a good deal / bargain.
So it depends what you are talking about.
The OP said (IIRC) that the £32 charge for using a debit card is a rip off.
Now everyone is going.... "you're getting a flight for £32.01, that is not a rip off, its a bargain"
The OP was not talking about the flight or the package, he was purely talking about the charge for using a debit card....
What don't people understand about that....
If Tesco started charging that much to use debit cards there would be uproar.... i'm sure them saying "but we sell digital cameras for £50 when the RRP is £60" wouldn't convince people otherwise.
This illustrates my previous point regarding separate portions of the overal price perfectly! Look, we all know what ryanair are doing, they are advertising their fares at bargain prices and recouping the remainder of the actual 'proper' fare through other charges, the booking fee being one of them. Now, if they charged the full price of the flight as the ticket price (as a lot of airlines do) and then charged £20 for a booking charge then THAT would be a rip-off.
Come on people, lets get some perspective here!! I personally don't fly with ryanair after they cancelled one of their Budapest routes but I see nothing wrong with their prices. The way the price is structured may be slightly underhand, but it is not wrong, not illegal and NOT a rip-off!
Phew...I feel better now!0 -

You must be blind if you have never seen "Taxes / Fees" on the Ryanair website0 -
£32 to pay by debit card not a rip off?!?!?
And here was me thinking this was a money saving board....
You quote my post number 54 but then completely ignore it....
£32 as a charge for paying by debit card IS a rip off - FACT
Forget the flights, their prices are not in question here.0 -

I wish you'd go out and get an Electron card and stop bloody moaning. :rotfl:

I quoted your post as an example of my previous post which was to the effect that too many people look at each individual breakdown of total costs and completely separate them without considering the cost as a whole. Ryanair are clearly removing £20 odd quid from the actual ticket price and moving it to the 'debit card processing fee'. If they didn't do this, they would charge the correct processing fee and add the £20 odd quid to the advertised fare. Either way you will be paying the same, you aren't being ripped-off, its just a rather underhanded marketing ploy to get you to initially prefer their airline to that of competitors.
In an ideal world, Ryanair would correctly itemise the exact costs for each part of the fare, but you are going to be charged £X no matter whether its mostly apportioned to ticket price, debit card fee, baggage fee etc. Think about it.
You really need to read other posts properly before offering constructive contributions. :rolleyes:0 -
The new OP has not been online now for two days. I doubt that they are coming back (unless one of their AE's is still watching/ posting on the thread?
).
Can we have some suggestions for new discussions please? Cheapest one way ticket to Crazytown?Gone ... or have I?0 -
My definition of a 'rip-off' would be paying greatly over the odds for a product or service, either by stealth charging or by the seller being in a dominant position in relation to the buyer.
Surely in this case they are? The only operator flying that route..?
You have to look at how much you are paying AS A WHOLE for the flight (including all charges) and decide whether the flight offers value for money.
True - but you only find out the price as a whole after you've selected flights, entered your personal details, had the website crash on you, gone back and done it all over again, given up and phoned a friend and asked them to do it, and finally seen the "payment confirmation page", at which point this payment charge is added.
That's a helluva lot of effort just to find out what the overall price is for comparisonMortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

Yes you did, incapuppy - and now you've gone and woken me up.....
TBH, I think there should be a standard reply for these sorts of posts - maybe links to all identical threads, with a note to come back and make any new points once they've read through the pro-Ryanair and con-Ryanair viewpoints.
Let's face it, there will always be people who've booked RyanAir flights and come on here saying they've been ripped off, there will always be people who advise them to get an Electron Card to avoid paying the charges, there will always be people agreeing that the card charges are a rip-off.
