Disagree, not Techie as this is about buying the best digital TV service that suits you. This news has drastically affected that choice.
I agree, it's nothing to do with "Techie" there's nothing technical about choosing who offers the best all in one TV package.

my xl package with virgin is £85
thats the v+ box, ordinary box, mega broadband and phoneline.
have never had to negotiate anything

We have V+ box , 2 ordinary boxes, mega broadband and phoneline and pay £77 a month there seems to be no set price as other people i know have different prices.
Was with sky for 14 years and changed to virgin last december because their call centre-service centre is pants. cannot say anything about virgin call centre because we nether needed to call them.
virgin on demand is fantastic the olympics via the red button was brilliant and the film and tv collection/catch up tv is good to also watched national treasure 2 for 1p last month.

May I ask what you said in order to get a new deal as I didn't think you could keep renegotiating?

I called one day last week and spoke to a chap who told me I was on the best deal possible. Hmmm, I thought, I will phone back and speak to someone else when I have further info to hand such as o2 broadband details.

Called back and spoke to a lady, made no mention of the phonecall in the previous week and quoted the o2 broadband deal to her. Told her I really wasn't intersted in all the useless channels on the xl package (which I had been given on a previous customer retention initiative.) Told her I was an o2 customer for my mobile and therefore could get it cheaper. She tried the old 'there will be hidden costs' so I replied 'oh you mean the free wireless router' I was then offered a free one from Virgin as well. Why pay £18 for 2MB Virgin when I could get 8MB from O2?

Each time I phoned I have rung 150 and gone through on the 'if you are thinking of leaving us' - I actually got as far as disconnections this time and was given this deal. I have told them I wanted to consider it for a few days and see what other deals are about before I commit to another 12 month contract.

If you don't succeed the first time, call back another day and speak to someone else. Granted there isn't the amount of flexibility as there was with NTL, but there is some!!!

OK MummyOf3 thanks for the reply ;)

I’m not sure if I can beat the deal we’re already on  I’m going to have to think about it before deciding whether to risk calling.

On another point, does anyone know if you can get Fox News on a Virgin package, I know Sky have it but I’m wondering if I can get it as an “Additional” channel?

I have the lowest level tv package with Virgin. I'm sure that when Sky 1 was last on Virgin I had it, but I wont be getting back now. Virgin 1 is no real substitute.

you can say that again - Virgin 1 is rubbish!!

Unless of course you like watching 'Americas craziest car chases' or similar tripe all day long.......

This is great! I'm already with Virgin for my internet connection, I'll be bundling now that they've got Sky One as well. I'll lose Burn Notice on FX, but at these prices I can buy the DVDs!
