The Utilities Act 2000 Schedule 4 Paragraph 2 (2) states that a supplier can't disconnect or install a prepayment meter: 'as respect to any amount which is genuinely in dispute'
You would be expected to continue to pay a reasonable amount for the supply you are using while the matter is being investigated.
very useful info, i shall certainly use this if they start any threats for debt collection again.
as for being expected to pay, i have rang them and paid £100 which i feel is a fair figure (last bill was £96) so hopefully when this gets sorted i shouldnt have too huge a bill to pay.
the guy is coming tomorrow to look at the meter so i will keep you updated as to what happenstrying to lose 3 stone by end of 2014;)0 -
good luck hope you get this sorted out !!0

Do you live at Buckingham Palace?
or a lighthouse maybe????'Normal' is a dryer setting.0 -
like ex-energywatch adviser says you need to write to them disputing the amount. Never Depend on what someone says over the phone. Also if you write to them at least this way you have a firm record of events and it puts it into dispute in writing as well
Except the speaking clock.
as Ms Pacman says, write everything down.
Also, can I have the number and name of the person you spoke to. To suggest that £10k might be a realistic figure or accurate for a home utility bill is superb!!!
"Computer says no" springs to mind.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -
just a thought but do u have 2 readings on your meter?? as eon made the mistake of mixing up my day and night units.0

Any news yet? When man sacrifices the Love of POWER for the Power of Love, there will be peace on earth.0

I wondered if there is an update.0

Considering you have a 10k bill, I would go one step further than writing everything down. I would be purchasing a dictaphone and record all phone conversations and conversations with any engineers.0

this is getting silly now, nobody showed up yesterday as promised and a guy has just been this morning who was as useless as a chocolate teapot !!!
he simply looked at the meter and said " oh yes your reading is correct" i explained to him it was impossible to use as much electric as they are claiming (using the calculation i was given on here.
he then said, sorry i only read meters , i dont get involved in disputes.
just rang up again and spoke to someone else, they said that the appointment had only been booked for a meter reader to come out. !!!!!!!!!!!
anyway they are ringing me back in a bit to book an engineer to come out asap.trying to lose 3 stone by end of 2014;)0 -
good luck !0
