most expensive bill ever !!!
well i got the shock of my life today,
my electric bill arrived and it was a whopping £10967 for 3 months use !!!!!!!
i rang to query it and was told it was correct. got to wait now for someone to come out and check the meter. in the mean time they said i need to pay the outstanding balance and if any money is due back after meter check they will refund.
i refused to pay this bill (couldnt afford it anyway) but surely anyone with a brain can see its wrong ????

If it's clocking up that much useage it should be simple enough for you to inspect the meter over a couple of hours or a day to check yourself what is happening!0

i did this and since 8am this morning its only changed by 1 digit ??trying to lose 3 stone by end of 2014;)0

What are the opening and closing readings? Are they estimates, meter readers or customer readings? How much power have you used in the past few hours?
If it is correct, it sounds like the local substation has tapped into your meter!0 -
opening reading was 01445 and closing reading was 63267.
since 8am the reading has only changed by 1trying to lose 3 stone by end of 2014;)0 -

oh and i am with edf energy !trying to lose 3 stone by end of 2014;)0 -
Opening should have been 61445, do you think? Or perhaps the closing reading is wrong - is the reading today a 6 at the front or a 0?
That seems an easy mistake for a keyboard operator to make
That would mean 1822 in, I presume, a quarter bill - 20 units a day. Bit high, perhaps, but closer to normal use and quite possible if all electric. I am assuming this is electric we are talking about.
Was this your first ever bill for this property or can you look back at what the carried forward was from last time?0 -
opening reading was 01445 and closing reading was 63267.
since 8am the reading has only changed by 1

i considered this too but when the meter was put in the reading was checked by myself and the installer and showed 00000. this was around april, my last bill in july was for £96 for a quarter
it definately has a 6 at the start now.trying to lose 3 stone by end of 2014;)0 -

couldnt agree with you more but try proving it was the meter readers 'mistake'........ive had that happen to me before and now I take a photo of the meters after the meter reader has read them so that I can 'prove' any wrong reading when the bill comes in - maybe a tad paranoid but its hell trying to prove your case.
and, if they are demanding payment- id be off to citizens advice or my local MP for backup - fine them taking a payment and saying they will refund if it finds to be a fault but whos got the interest for £10k thats sat in the bank while the months go on trying to sort it out......'Normal' is a dryer setting.0
