OK, a more scientific approach. Check the main fuse - normally this is 100A for a residential property.

    Now 100A x 240V = 24kW

    24kW x 24 hours x 91 days = 52416kWh

Ask them to explain how you could possibly consume 61822kWh in that timeframe.

opening 014.45 and closing reading 632.67, is it?

This is doing my head in!

I do wish you well. It must be a horrible position to find yourself in and sounds like it could happen to anyone. Do keep us all informed. Are you expecting him today?

I still reckon it's that first digit but how it happened....

    Good luck.

TBF if you read the whole thread it doesn't sound like it is their error. The error sounds like it is a meter/supply one. Hopefully the engineer will see what has happened and everything will be sorted. I don't think GMTV will be interested at this point....EDF are treating it as urgent (which it is!)
  • If a supplier is trying to get you to pay an electricity bill which you are sure is wrong the best way to stop them in their tracks is to quote supply legislation to them.
The Utilities Act 2000 Schedule 4 Paragraph 2 (2) states that a supplier can't disconnect or install a prepayment meter: 'as respect to any amount which is genuinely in dispute'

You would be expected to continue to pay a reasonable amount for the supply you are using while the matter is being investigated.

like ex-energywatch adviser says you need to write to them disputing the amount. Never Depend on what someone says over the phone. Also if you write to them at least this way you have a firm record of events and it puts it into dispute in writing as well
