Have you ever bought a car on Ebay-We just have! advice please.

I've reported no end of shill bidders - don't expect eBay to do anything though, they're in the business of making money and they do that through the sellers, not through the buyers. Anyone want a picture of an Xbox 360?

the only issue with the lucida is its a standalone model. if one passed you in the street you'd think it was a previa but its significantly narrower.

still worth checking around for specialists though.

Good Point. I did realise this but I know that for example the DelSol VXi has no direct UK equivelent but is close to a CRX ESi (The JDM model is a 1.5 SOHC and the UK car is 1.6 SOHC but both deliver 130ps and 123bhp respectivly so very similar performace) - so the specialists insure the VXi as a ESi equivelent.

More difficult with the Lucida as it isn't just an engine difference, but as you say - worth a try. Owners Clubs are very good at pointing you to companies where you can save money. They are also good at pointing out lots of things that could save you money too, often a wealth of info that will save you on garage bills too.

Sorry, I have no idea what a lucida is but just wanted to add that I bought my car off eBay with no problems. I went to see it before bidding and made sure to pay cash on delivery to make sure they didn't do a runner with my dosh! I reckon as long as you're sensible (like: see/drive it first, don't use western union, get a HPI check) eBay is a fine place to get a motor.

I put my car up for sale....2001 ( Nov ) Honda CRV. Car's immaculate, but needed to sell since I've now got a company car....and DW wants a new kitchen!

Can't believe the questions I've been asked by prospective buyers........

Is mileage legit ?
You say it's UK registered, can you confirm this ?
Does it have a spare tyre included (!?) ?
...and many others.

It appears there are some real shysters out there...the lady who asked for the mileage went to buy a car with a declared mileage of 52K only to find it was 152 K ...a MISTAKE by eBay said the seller!!

The spare tyre question was from a guy who bought a 4x4 and discovered the spare tyre wasn't in the hard cover!!

.and the UK question from a guy who was buying a UK car ( according to the ad) only to find it was an import ...another "mistake" by eBay!!....according to the seller!
.and the amount of people who wanted to do a deal privately and for me to close my eBay auction was unreal!!..Told me it'd save the fees and we could split the difference!!..I personally wouldn't deal with someone that slippery!!LOL!!

i bought and sold a car on ebay no problem, i followd the sales for about 2mths to get a feel for a good deal, we bought a mini, we looked at it first and was a bargain..sold it 4mths later for good profit too (on ebay again!)

found that the prices shot up in the last ten mins on all auctions for cars, buyers must wait to bid so they dont push up the price!

I have bought 2 cars on eBay, a VW Golf GTi and a VW Polo. Both have been fantastic and bought off traders who wanted to offload their part exchange vehicles quickly. I think as long as you have done all the necessary checks prior to buying, then you can't really go wrong.. the only thing that would be nice is a police check.. but then the AA can do those as well these days!

Can i just say that Jap imports are fantastic value for money and more fool you for thinking otherwise and more of the bargains for me and people like me who know a thing or two about cars.
I have a eunos roadster which is a jap import. Its basically a mazda MX5 with a list of improvements on the British model (only snobs miss out!)
1. Higher spec, my car has air con and all the extras at no extra cost.
2. My car hasn't a spot of rust on it anywhere and it's eleven! (may be due to the fact it never reached Scotland until it was 5.
3. Parts are exactly the same as mx5 parts just some specifc branded items like badges etc are obviously different but engine parts etc no difference. This is because my car was made in the same factory as the british models it just has a different badge!
4. i dont understand why labour is more expensive and have no expereince of this. Anyway it's a japanese car (the best i think) and has never given me a bit of bother.
5. The fact you like french cars says it all to me, get some taste mdear get a wee mazda mx5!
6. Insurance is easy to get i have used Diamond, norwich union direct and elephant amongst a few companies over the last few years and my last premium was £380 and i'm 27.
so in future do your research before making such bold statements
