  • HI

We bought a toyota lucida im may this year and id just like to say these are great cars my partner wouldnt part with it now. I live in scotland and he lives in england and he makes the drive 900 miles to scotland and back every other weekend. They are far larger inside to any uk people carriers and the parts are easy to obtain. there is also a toyota estima lucida web club and the people on there are very helpful if you do have any problems.I would advise if you do go for it you get it fully serviced i dont know were abouts you are but there is a cracking place in essex that does a full service on these cars for £99 including oil change and filters. I would point out however that they do tend to have head gasket problems and this is very expensive to repair. We went to see 6 before we bought our 1 and basically i went with my gut feeling i didnt like the seller of the first 1s we went to see. My advise is if you dont like the car or the seller walk away. Im not sure if i can post the link to the estima club web site for toyota lucida owners on here but if you want it let me know as you will get lots more advise there.

imports are terrible to get parts for unless its a subaru
no toyota dealer will touch it with a barge pole and its done 100k
i know you have a budget but ive just bought a 1996(n plate) ford galaxy 2.0l petrol for a friend for £2100 with history,2 owners and 57k on the clock its got a few trolley marks and the inside needs a major valet but its a people carrier thats been used to run kids around in...and its only cost his misses £320 to insure as a childminder for her business............
be patient and soak up the neg feedback the cars are out there and it wasnt the only one for around that money in the trader that day

I have one of these Toyota Lucida`s and its a brilliant car. i bought mine last year and it had obvioulsy been clocked but its been the best car ever. Very reliable and a brilliant starter in the mornings. I have had no problems when i had to get a new part for it. These are easy to get parts for nowadays and if you look on the roads there are lots of lucida`s about. If you dont want the car i will have it.The only thing i would recommned is that you get the cambelt done straight away if it hasnt been done. The mileage would not put me off. these cars go on for alot more miles than that. The lack of service history wouldnt worry me as this is the norm with imports. After having two jap imports i would always recommend them and i wouldnt touch a ford after having one of these.I pay 30 pounds a month with direct line for the insurance, and thats fully comp. However, i would always look at a car that i was interested in on ebay before buying, but i seriously think you may have a bargain. Let us know if you go ahead with the sale and if you do what the car turns out to be like.

    You're talking rubbish!:snow_laug
I've had one for six years and it's been more reliable than my Lexus!
Parts are no problem either - many factors specialise in these.
Have you not noticed that there are more of these on the road now than the "official" Prevais? Why? Because they're so much better.

    Can I help?

Well my partner went off to look at it with my (big, tuff looking, brother!) and a friend, all three are quite good with cars and know what to look out for.I've been so anxious all day!!Anyway they took it for a drive (eventualy-as it wouldn't start for ages, but the guy said in the listing that the battery may need replacing, and it's just been sat for at least a month)We have a suitable spare anyway. They all agreed every thing seemed o.k.And decided it was a bargain.By the time he got home it was dark so I've not assesed it properly yet,but he said it drove home great(about 25 miles) and the only obvious in the dark faults I could see were a tiny rip in one seat about an inch.the inside light doesn't work, and the doors don't seem to lock! But I'm sure we can sort that out.It is a bit grubby(not really bad), and ashtrays are full.To be honest I'd be scared of ruining a pristine car with my kids!
Hopefully we've got ourselves a bargain, I do have a slight worry of worst case scenario, it may have been stolen in the past and we might loose it and money, but I think thats just me being paranoid!I'l get back to you in a few days when we've had chance to use it properly, from my first feelings though it's great really spacious and comfortable.I would of prefered it to have leather interior ,big sunroof privacy glass and a fantastic music system, but I never expected to get all that within our budget. This one ( if it doesn't fall to pieces!)will certyainly do us.
Thank you all so much for replying, you have been really helpful.

I am sure you will find you have got a bargain there. These cars are built to drive for miles. when i first got mine 20 months ago,it felt like a tank.It only took me a few days to get used it though. I love my Lucida and i intend buying another one after this one. Great vehicle for families,Economic way to buy a people carrier. All the best,
