get a pin and a cusion. Thinking of the item you have lost stab the pin into the cushion saying 'I pin the devil'.

    Then keep looking.

It will be in the last place you look;) (Sorry I just couldn't resist that! - obviously when you find it you will stop looking...)
When I pin though I sometimes lose something else - I only do it when I am desperate. S'probably witchcraft...

Thanks for this Valli and Soappie. Your post made me think seriously about how important the ring actually is to me. Would I be more upset if I found the ring and lost something else instead? I decided that the ring is only important because it reminds me of my grandma and I've already lost her. So I haven't tried the pinning. Instead, with Mr CS's help we have spent the whole day looking for it.
So just a little update before I get back to helping him search...
Obviously we haven't found the ring, otherwise we would have stopped looking for it. But we have found the only photo I had of my Dad. My son lost it years ago. When he was little he bought me a frame to put the photo in and supposedly wrapped them up together. But when I opened the parcel the frame was there and the photo was missing. He cried so much, because he wanted it to be a nice surprise and he had lost the photo.
I am very happy to have found the photo. :D
I'll let you know if I find the ring.
I'm going to go now and ring my son to tell him about the photo.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in. :D

Sewing isn't really my thing, so trying AnWsMum's idea :D when I find the iron (ironing isn't my thing either) ....might have to buy a new one :o

Thanks Johanne, but he's in Beavers, sorry, I know I am useless :o but thanks to your links I found it http://www.scoutbase.org.uk/6to25/beaver/badges/uniform.htm

CS - sorry you haven't found the ring, although you're very philosophical about it, but what a wonderful find with the photograph. Your son will be thrilled too!
