I'm going to see how i go this month as to whether to overpay the mortgage in december what with it being christmas and all.
Had a 300 pound backpay in this months salary, so stumped up £235 for a new kitchen floor and £500 for my car insurance which is now paid up for the year within the past month.
I've decided im going to save 45 a month for my car insurance even though i've paid it and this time next year I will have the cash upfront so don't have to pay the interest, and will also help work off the interest on my offset mortgage if i keep it in the linked saving account.
I'm going to cancel my gym fees (got the wii fit and tap classes now) and get rid of my british gas homecare to just drains (we have shared so we all need the cover to get them seen to) which will save me approx 45 a month to overpay the mortgage.
Sorted all my christmas pressies too and in january will be opening a skipton bs christmas savings account and paying in 30 per month as usual to save for pressies.
I'm convinced next year I will start making an impact on the mortgage and saving for my new kitchen too (the only part of my house i haven't fully renovated in the past 2 years) wish me luck!
Thanks for adding me to the list zavMortgage free wannabe!:

Woo Hoo! HM Revenue & Customs calculated my Child Tax refund from 2002/2003 and I am the proud owner of a cheque for £799. I think I know where some of that'll be going. I was in half a mind not to tell my better half and just overpay the cash.
Here's a tip that I'll pass on... in a similar way to how the the Mortgage Pig works. Whenever you reach a milestone (e.g. every 1K) payment, Google for that number, then set your wallpaper to display the number. If you can't find a picture - make one up by taking a photo of a family member holding a number up. I guess you could keep the home made ones in a diary.0 -
:hello:
Last year I saw the 2008 thread start. We were in the process of remortgaging at the time and I never actually got round to joining in
Although I have just received a letter from the bank with details of the overpayment I made this month :j I can't belive I am so excited when we are only saving £8.61 a month :rotfl:
Anyway I am bleathering on I would like to join in for 2009 and my target is *deep breath* £3000. I have been dithering over how much we could afford without having the kids miss out on things... DH isn't entirely on board -but then again I deal with the bills because it isn't his strong point :rotfl:
Thanks for the thread!0
