You can include whatever you want - mine is the offset total, others count what they save into ISA's to pay off at a later stage.... its entirely up to you - it it after all your money :D

    Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I never realised until now that we were allowed to include money that we'd plunked into savings rather than onto mortgage - my mortgage rate will drop to 2.49% at the end of January, so I've been holding back on OP'ing. Also OH's job security is still potentially dodgy, and we aren't on an offset mortgage, so money in savings is more reassuring.

But hey, if we can count the savings...

*scurries off to look at savings accounts*

Back. Not counting stuff that's earmarked for something else, we've saved £9k this year. Not quite sure how we did that, but I'm really pleased! :j

My OP target for 2009 was £6k, and we OP'd £3k in February, so that extra makes it £12k this year :D

Will pm you with that extra bit, Zavarony!

  • Number 288 reporting in.

November overpayments were £23.16. This is a lot better than the 50p i managed last month particularly with car repairs and a couple of trips out with the kids this month.

That takes my total for 2009 to £18,950.27.

I'm expecting to pay a bit more off in December, although probably only a smaller amount again what with Christmas and my car tax being due, and putting the cats in the cattery while we visit the in-laws at christmas. I also need to hold onto a bit for 2 MOT's due in January.

I really hope the rate stays low for us for the time being.

  • I've an automated overpayment on the 1st of the month (overpay as early as possible), and I've just paid £256.97, rounding our normal payment of £898.03 up to £1,155.00

So, year to date I've made £2,778.64 in overpayments - 73.12% of my 2009 aim of £3,800.00

One small further overpayment near the end of December to give a round year end mortgage value, then I'll publish a summary of my 2009 overpayments.

    Financial Bliss.
Mortgage and debt free. Building up savings...

Hi FB - you may need to change your sig! Can't believe how soon the 12th will be.
  • Well fellow MFW's, I am delighted to say that today I achieved my target of overpayments to leave me with a year end mortgage balance of £4,970. :j

It's been great to see the "mortgagebalanceometer" winding down, 13k at the start of the year to just 5k.

I had intended to leave the 5k at interest only (£10, yes £10 per month, to enable me to fund a new kitchen, (£10-12k). However, I have asked Nationwide to make £1k I/O and the remaining 4k will be cleared by June 2010. The kitchen will be funded by 0% Credit Cards.

Keep at it everyone, it can be done. I know when your mortgage is large the overpayments might not seem to make a dent in the mortgage balance, but over time you will enjoy the sight of your mortgage balance diminishing to the day it is zero. :T
