Can you tell me what the "credit card disputes" you contacted is? I did a quick Google but couldn't spot a company by that name. If you've got a contact e-mail or website address, I'd be grateful.

Have you tried contacting the company who issued you with the credit card?

The name of the company should be on the card somewhere. They should also be sending you statements, their name should be on the statement as well.
Beware of imitations e.g. Robert Sterling

Just ring your credit card customer service line, explain what's happened and they'll put you through, or, like I did, email and they'll give you the number to ring.

Thanks gents. I'd assumed since the Consumer Protection laws only make credit card companies liable for goods costing over £100 that they wouldn't be interested, but it sounds like I am wrong there.

Since it's Monday, I will give Willen one last chance and send off another salvo of e-mails, if there's no reply by the end of today then I will contact Barclaycard.

    Thanks for your help.

I bought a camcorder from them last year, no problem at all.
  • Thanks for the advice, folks. This is just to let you know that I have received the refund of £99.99 from Barclaycard in my dispute with Willen Trading. It's evidently the way to go if you get into this kind of situation with dodgy traders. And thank you to Barclaycard.
  • It looks like I posted that last bit about my small "victory" a little too hastily. I've now received a letter from Barclaycard which says:

"May I advise that we have made written representations on your behalf to Willen Trading via their bankers in an attempt to bring this matter to a satisfactory conclusion. However, as we are totally reliant on the goodwill of this retailer to respond, I am sorry but we are unable to guarantee whether the outcome will prove successful....

In the meantime, we have temporarily credited your account with £99.99. Should our representations prove unsuccessful, we reserve the right to recharge this amount at a later date."

So Willen Trading only has to ignore Barclaycard in the same way they ignored me and many other customers, and I suppose that is exactly what they will do.

Preparing for that outcome, what's the next step? A County Court small claim? I've read around a bit, but it seems that even if you get a judgement in your favour it can be very difficult to enforce it and get your money back.

    Any advice or experiences?

Well, fair do's to Barclaycard, they refunded the money and, in spite of the caveat they sent me above, they haven't taken it back so I am assuming now that it is sorted (is that premature of me?).

There is no doubt that Willen Trading are rogues. Although some people report favourable experiences, many more have sad tales to tell, so why take a risk and deal with these scoundrels?

    AVOID WILLEN TRADING!

One question: is there any point in reporting them to their local Trading Standards Officer (in Milton Keynes)? I'd be more than happy to write them a letter, and if others who have been mistreated by Willen Trading did the same then perhaps we might get some action against them.
  • I would like to say that I havn't read all the negative posts here, but I had heard were fine.
