Well, I entered my bank details. Am I at greater risk?

Only if you have entered direct debit details.Paypal can grab what they want from your account if you have.If you have online bank facility you can cancel the paypal DD before they even try it.If they end up out of pocket because of a fraudulent transaction they will take it from your account first and argue afterwards.

Aww c**p. Better cancel the Direct Debit request I set up with them... :o

EDIT: According to the email they sent me,
PayPal will only debit your account when you explicitly request this service, i.e. when you send an Instant Bank Transfer, an eCheque or Add Funds to your PayPal account. The debit will occur three working days after you initiate the transaction.

Am I to assume this is not the case and they will steal what they like from my account and therefore I should cancel the DD? Also, how many sales do you need for verified status if doing it through the DD way is not recommended?

I trade on both ebay and amazon. I will never EVER sell high value goods on ebay. Tried to sell my mobile phone, every time I got scammed, first purchaser paid with stolen credit card thru paypal, second purchaser tried the "send to Nigeria" scam and third purchaser wanted to meet me in town with cash. Ebay ENCOURAGE this behaviour, there are no checks on buyers or sellers. Watch out for the crooks, trust no one. Fees on Amazon are higher but every transaction is risk and trouble free. Using paypal is not safe, its a subsidiary of ebay that makes them loads of money.
  • Hi,
not sure if this has been mentioned but it doesn't matter if you whip the money out when it reaches £50 as PayPal can still put you in the negative if a fraudulent payment is made as I know to my cost and they do nothing about it.
    See thread http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Ebay;action=display;num=1103648794
I have used PayCon PayPal in the past on many occassions until this one time I needed their assistance and then nothing, no help whatsoever.
    They are just not interested.
