Nochex is a waste of time. I used to offer it on all my auctions and think over a period of a couple of years it was used twice. It's barely cheaper than paypal and only works in the UK which limits your buyers. I don't even bother putting it on my auctions anymore.

Right, after some thought it looks like I'll be signing up for a PayPal account after all, although to pay for goods rather than receive them. I'll keep my fingers crossed and post up results here.

EDIT: I've now signed up for one and I want to transfer funds into it from a credit card. However it only gives me the option to transfer them from a bank account. I do not want to transfer funds from a bank account. Any help here guys and girls?

  • As far as I know you can only transfer funds into your account via a bank account, unless you just let them take it from your bank account when you pay for something, or if someone pays you through paypal and you just leave the money in the account

OK, I should've asked this earlier but I forgot. So...
    • Did the PayPal users here complete the Verification program and did they have any problems with it?
    • Are the fees charged on the Premier account per transaction, per month (Or other time period) or both?
    • Is there any danger of them removing funds from my bank account at will, as some people have suggested, if I add my account details?

A lot of what people say about paypal put me off them.
    Nice to save.
  • @dhui, I never had problems with verification and the fee's are removed when you get payed so if someone sends you £100, then it will show that you revieved £100 from so and so and their will be a box next to it saying fees, which will be £3 in this case so £97 will be put into your Paypal balance!

Oh and btw, are the sellers still prohibited from charging their buyers extra for Paypal fees?  I've started seeing people doing it again recently.

SURCHARGES ARE INDEED NOW BANNED, but, what you may now be seeing, as a numbe rof sellers are doing, is insisting those who pay via paypal use some kind of trackable shipping (recorded, intnl signed for etc) as this is the only thing payprat will accept on non recieved claims (not even email from the buyer to them saying they've got it).

I no send everything papal paid as recorded minimum, asI've had 4 claims this year for non-delivery, all of which WHERE delivered as they buyer even told me that.

on case in example. bought & paid in sept, guy had an item go missing, his Credit Card co mixed up the transactions and claimed against mine in oct, within 3 DAYS Ihad BOTh buyer & CC co. contacting payprat explaining the mistake. Yet still, 30 days on, the money was taken from my account (plus a £7 admin charge).
because I had no tracking number. this was then 'disputed on my behalf' by paypal, but not until another 4 or 5 mails from all parties to them, that they denied recieving despite having replied to them. I was advised to wait 75 days before the refund woould be made, despite the CC co saying effectivly 'take the money now' repeatedly to them, the 75 days was up last monday, and I'm still waiting. the guy has his goods, has been excellent about this, as has his CC co., but I'm still down £27 for the goods & £7 for payprats 'admin'.
I don't like the idea that they charge £7 whenever THEy fail to defend you, what's in it for them to defend you well?, they won't provide contact details to the CC co (in this case the CC Co contacted me), yet won't defend you adequately against them.
big worry is, depsite having CC & buyer on my side throughout, I still can't get the money back, so clearly, you've no chance when the claim is fruadulent and they're just trying it on to say they've not got it.
    recorded is an absolute must.
I still use it, as most buyers prefer to pay that way, but I'd much rather not!.

OK, I've done one part of the verification process (Automated phone call). I still haven't heard from anyone else if they have had difficulties with setting up a Direct Debit order between PayPal and their bank account. Anyone wishing to allay my fears as I'm getting more and more nervous the more details I submit to PayPal.

  • Is Paypal Safe??????? Are they a Bank? Are they governed by banking regulation? Don't think they are as they do not class themselves as a bank.

I did get stung for a sale through Ebay some time ago b4 Paypal became part of Ebay. Someone ordered goods to the value of $200 paid via paypal, I sent the goods then 3 months later Paypal clawed the money back saying the credit card used was used fraudulently.
I called Paypal in ther USA and they told me'' as a NON USA customer I am not covered by Paypal Insurance'' I have to repay the $200 to paypal.

BEWARE. and yes you willl possibly find my message on https://www.paypalsucks.com worth reading.

Well, I entered my bank details. Am I at greater risk?
