OS Daily Sunday 2nd November

Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for Sunday 2nd November, 2008. It is an 'over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start does just as well.
Morning :hello:
Oooh I haven't started the thread for ages
I woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep
I've had one of those weeks where I've been rushing around but haven't actually achieved anything  We had no trick or treaters the other day :T
We nipped into town on Friday to get some bits and pieces for FIL, and ended up wandering around the farmer's market. Mr troo spent £8 on olives  I hate the things but I'm now wondering if they'll grow in the garden (will they? and how big does the tree get?) cos he eats them all the time and it's costing a small fortune.
We went to my cousin's wedding yesterday, that was great, everyone was really relaxed and enjoyed themselves. I ate far too much and when we got home I sank into the sofa and couldn't move again
I have loads of washing and ironing to catch up on, and the cake and biscuit tins are empty so I'll do a bit of baking this morning. Hopefully I'll be done by 1pm, then I can sink back into my sofa for the rest of the day
Off to catch up with the threads from the past few days, see you later

Morning all!
Thanks for the comments on the pumpkins, it was great fun.
OH got home about half an hour ago so I got up and am now talking to my friend in America. He seems in good spirits tonight so that is great.
Squiggly - 'Fricky-dickys' as we call them in our house are in the chiller part - not frozen, though they can be once you get them home.
Essex-girl - I had to live without my washing machine for four days a few weeks ago.. it was a P.I.T.A!
Knees still really painful so didn't do very much at all yesterday except bake some ginger hobnobs. Oh and we ate from the freezer last night, some pork meatballs I made a week or so ago with mash. We are having the second chicken we bought from the M & S deal tomorrow with all the trimmings. Making room in the freezer for new things!
Hope you all have a relaxed and enjoyable Sunday
*hugs* to all who need them today.

Morning Troo and all you early birds. I see I am king maker today choosing between two started posts... This was was 2 minutes earlier. (sorry Diva)
I feel refreshed after a good nights sleep. Friday I ended up working a 20 hour day getting home at 0330. I managed 4 hours sleep and so Saturday I was dragging all day. A long coastal walk with the dog woke me up, but by the time we arrived at a friends for an evening meal I was half asleep. From 9pm onwards I was really struggling. I made it till 1015 and then we had to go.... pity.
Church today and then enjoying Sunday lunch at a freinds house. So it has been a money saving food weekend really.
Well hope you all have a relaxing day!NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Morning Guys!
Friends come round last night and spent a nice evening together. We went dutch on an Indian which was delish and had apple pie for desert.
WM needs to go on, DW has been emptied and toilet cleaned. House generally clean and tidy.
Hospital tomorrow for a couple of hrs. Not feeling very well still but I wonder if its just me getting worked up about going in
...have just taken some strong pain killers, so hopefully they will kick in soon.
OH got a reduced pack of stewing veg yesterday, so I got a small packet of stewing diced lamb out last night and will bung it all in the SC and add dumplings later....yummy!
Hope everyone is ok. Hugs to all.

Moring all.
I haven,t posted on here in a while but thought I would drop in and say hello today...........Hello
Yesterday I havd a wonderful suprise , in my pre MSE days (late last year) I used to have an envelope I used to save the odd tenner in that I used in emergencies or just for a treat
well I thought it hadall gone as I hadn't seen it in a while but whilst clearing out the wardrobe yesterday I found it and it contained £80 .....back then this would of been a nice pair of shoes , however I'm pleased to say it will now be used for 2 weeks shopping budget and the extra £20 will be on a couple of xmas pressies!!!
I m so proud of my self for looking at it and thinking.."i wonder how long I can make this last"
I must be officially a grown up MSE!!!.
Anyway apart from that I have a mountain of ironing and washing to do and have requests for more of Twinks Hobnobs.
Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!

Hello
I've been lurking around this board and thought I'd say hello. You've all really inspired me to make my own bread and going todo some apple chutney with my apples from the garden.
Excellent find Daisychain £80 you didn't know you had.
PP hope the hospitals okay tomorrow, you poor thing I hate hospitals.
I'm trying to work out a budget. We are all vegetarian so it shouldn't be to difficult to shop for less. I'm always surprised even when I come out of the supermarket with a small bag it at least a tenner.
Thanks for reading.

Mornin ivfmummy,
I know I couldn't believe it back them it wasn't much but NOW...my word it will last me 2 weeks
I initially found it difficult to budget as I'm a veggie and OH loves his meat, yesterday was my food shop day I went to the local green grocers came out with 2 huge bags and it cost me £11.44 then to Netto for a few essentials (pasta, tinned toms and the like) that came to just under £9.00 then on to the butchers for mince, chicken and things for oh that I can stretch for a few meals at £7.80.
All in all less than £29.00 for both of us (including packed lunches) so I was very chuffed, however it has taken me months to perfect the art of budgeting my food , we used to think nothing of blowing £60+ for 1 week and half of that would get thrown , Im now very reluctant to throw any. All I had to throw this week was a very sorry looking carrot-but it didn't go in the bin...next doors rabbit ate it
Good luck with the budget, it may take a while but you CAN do it!!

Morning all,
Daisychain - what a lovely find
It's funny the things that make you suddenly think "ooh I'm really a grown-up now" lol!!
AnnieStar, glad you had such a fantastic time & managed to meet with a great OSer
I suddenly caught something on the local news the other night & thought ""aargh, it's tonight already"... Not sure where my days are going (well I am, it's a new work placement & I'm shattered).
Dazi, great to hear from you, glad the new job is going well & thank heavens for SC's!!! My DD's are much the same when it comes to bra-shopping - costs me a fortune!! (they take after me obviously, poor kids...!!)
Troo - thought you meant Mr Troo had spent £8 on tubs of prepared olives - I was going to say ouch...
I see Rocky Road now has a thread of its own, lol - I am making some today, and maybe something else but haven't decided what yet. My mum is doing roast at her house so I will be up there for lunch, but in between trying to finish flipping research proposal.
(((hugs))))) for all those feeling poorlysad (my DD's always say it as one word), or just needing one.
Oh, and welcome to the ivfmummy and all the other recent newbies

hi troo....you can grow olive trees in the uk but it is unlikely they will fruit, as they need plenty of sun and heat ....they are more of a conservatory plant in this country....can't say i blame Mr troo......i lurve olives!!! One suggestion i do have which may save you some money is to marinate them yourself....depending on which type of olive he likes, the ones which are either stuffed or in dressings are very easy to make yourself and they always seem to charge a lot more for them than the plain ones....
anyhoo....i haven't posted here before, i have been on the boards for almost a year now but am finally getting myself round to more os stuff...i am getting a breadmaker today (costing me only £10 from a friend!!) and am looking forward to playing lots with that.....i have to search the threads later to see how to keep the stuff fresh though....last time i had one it seemed to go stale very quickly??!!.....i am wishing today away, just so that i can wake up tomorrow to the smell of it wafting through my house...how sad am i???:o i am also going to get onto the flylady thread and see if i can get myself more organised!!
planning to make some onion chutney today, clean the house a bit while it is cooking and then going to pick up dd & her bf.....better enjoy the peace while i have it!!:rotfl:0 -
