Why don't you earn enough?

I don't care too much for money, money can't buy me love.
or
Peace of mind.
I have enough to get by, any more and you just get more STUFF or have to worry about it being pinched off you. I would far rather have more time than money.
Self employed and love it, though I don't earn a great deal. It's enough.
What do you do as being self employed?Mortgage Free 2016Work Part Time:DHouse Hunting In France 20230 -
I earn very well but dont like my job and haven't liked it since the day I started doing it for one firm or another over 20 years ago!
I think if people looked at their budgets better they wouldnt need to earn more. I find the older I get the less important material things are to me. Despite being able to afford whatever car I want, a bigger house, designer clothes etc...I just dont see the point. As long as I have enough cash in my account for holiday/beer and footie I am happy.0 -
At the moment, the thing that is stopping me from getting a better paid job is our human resources dept! I have had the go-ahead for a raise for 2 months now but still not had it put into action. The thing is I'm also in the process of applying for the police and their process has had me in limbo since spring. I won't hear until December but if I get in then I'll be dumping the job that didn't see me as important enough to run through my raise that bit quicker!"a workman, even of the lowest and poorest order, if he is frugal and industrious, may enjoy a greater share of the necessaries and conveniences of life than it is possible for any savage to acquire."0

optimisery wrote: »Interesting post Kris, I to climbed the ladder to retail management but am far from happy - finding it way too stressful. Money is good though - thats the only thing that has kept me going so long but looking for something else which will probably mean a drop in salary - may i ask if you stayed with the same company and (for want of a better word) downgraded or did you move on? And if you stayed how was that accepted by staff/colleagues??

I know a few colleagues from various jobs who have requested demotion and how they were treated depended a lot on the management, even within the same company at one point, one manager was very accomodating with a colleague who requested a demotion, but after this manger left, her replacement was not prepared to accomodate another colleague who made a similar request. (ETA It was a few months later that I decided to leave, and on seeing how my colleague was treated decided asking this manager would have been a waste of time, so i just looked elsewhere)
Good luck whatever you decide to do yourself optimisery!Owing to financial constraints, the light at the end of the tunnel has been switched off until further notice.

My big problem is that I did english and creative writing, and got some sub editing experience in uni, thinking that would help me get a job in publishing. i got a sub editing job, which I kept for six months before taking voluntary redundancy because I disliked the company's ethos. I am now applying for other publishing jobs and being told I don't have enough experience. The only way to get experience is to work for free, in London. which, given that i'm supporting myself, is ridiculous.£1600 overdraft

I'm only going back to work because of financial necessity. I would far rather watch my little chap grow up, then take a job whilst he's in school hours. I'm aiming for the next best thing and gunning for a job whilst he's asleep and his daddy can look after him should he wake up. We live very modestly but have struggled since I stopped work. My partner has a good job and salary, but we have a mortgage and debts to pay, so sadly the surveys and reviews are not enough. I'll still do them though.Sealed Pot Challenge number 298, up yours HSBC!0

Im 25, at the age where I should be a high earner ( LOL ) Im self employed, which means I barely earn minimum wage. But I love it, and I know that given time and energy my baby ( business ) will be a nice little earner, and I am doing something that i love, and I am also able to run my life at the same time as my business. I take on work when I want and I let it go when I want. I dont answer to anyone, and can only blame myself if something doesnt go right
I have just started doing Avon, and am looking at taking up jewellery and card making in the new year as a little side line0 -
I've seen many people in this thread refer to additional reveue coming from Surveys etc that they carry out in their spare time.
I was wondering, can anyone point me in the direction of one so that I may register to earn a little extra cash myself.
I've seen some on here but they have been reported as spam, so was just wondering if anyone knew of any.
Thanks,

Lol, I thought that's why everyone worked?
Personally, I earn OK, have prospects to earn more, move up ladders blah blah blah - and sure I will in time. In the meantime, if it's between sitting in doing nothing in the evening and making a few quid doing a survey etc, I know which one I'd do...they're quite interesting to do, don't take long and pennies add up.0 -
For where I live I'm on an above average salary already. There simply aren't better paid jobs down here that I would be able to get into.
The reason I don't earn enough is that I made a series of financial commitments with my now ex husband which I am left paying for on my own. Like the mortgage which was taken out with two well paid earners, but now represents around 75% of my take home pay each month. Sadly until I can sell the house (which is now in negative equity thanks to current market conditions) I'm not going to be able to earn enough. If I had a more sensible mortgage / rent payments I'd be fairly well off.
Any pennies that come my way make a huge difference to me - even £50 a month would represent a major increase in my disposable income.Re-learning the basics in life. Working out the difference between what I really need and what I want. Ignoring the latter and making sure the former is as good as I can possibly get, so I don't have to find it again.0
