been there done that, sometimes working your way up the ladder is not the best thing for everyone. I worked my way up in a large company had a good wage, never saw my husband or my kids, gave up and went part time when my youngest told me on holiday that he liked it when he saw his mummy. Sometimes life is all about a compromise. It's not always the easiest option for someone to work their way up the ladder, it takes a lot of commitment and time that maybe some people just don't have0

the more you earn the more you spend. i have a well paid job but i like the thought of a free meal/night out on a mystery shop - it's a bit of a hobby to me with a bonus of getting paid for the pleasure!0

I freelance, and I'm self-employed, so cashflow either makes me look like Rockerfeller or someone off Shameless, depending on what's going through at the time.
Dooyoo is my poison of choice, as it's helping me hone my skills for the occasional bits of copywriting I do. Being an occasional webmaster (and therefore minion tecchie), I also fall into the "useful respondent" category for QNA. Between them, they fund my not inconsiderable Amazon habit...
I don't think it's so much of asking the question "why don't I earn enough?", but "what can I do to bring in a bit extra?".
And besides, surveys and stuff are fun...:)£5 a day in December £179.59/£155£100 on STP by 31 January 09 £2.03/£1000 -
Surely if it was that easy to get a better job, we'd all have done it already?
My job pays quite well for what it is. I don't have the qualifications to get anything different or higher paying, which is why I'm doing evening classes to get A-levels. I probably could get a very slightly better paid job in a more commercial sector, but it'd be way too much hassle! Firstly, I have a lot of time off for hospital appointments, operations, etc., which my employers are very understanding about. But if I moved out of the charity sector into the public sector, I'd probably end up getting sacked or made redundant for that sort of thing. And they certainly wouldn't let me mess with my hours in order to go to college.
My main reasons for not wanting to leave my current job include being terrified of having to use Windows all the time instead of Mac, and being terrified of having to dress properly! I look and feel stupid in smart clothes (and I have left jobs before after being told to wear a skirt). Frankly, it's just not worth selling my soul just to earn a tiny bit more money. Although I would consider selling certain body parts or my eggs if anyone offered me the right price... Shame eBay won't let me list them :-)0 -
I have good qualifications, and I'm in a well-paying job that I enjoy
I'm also disabled with a progressive neurological condition, I am slowly losing the ability to do my job, so getting promotions isn't an option. I'm trying to put as much money into paying off my mortgage as I possibly can, with the hope of paying off before I lose my job, so every little helpsLindsayO
Goal: mortgage free asap

I earn enough money to pay my bills, save a little, run my car/motorbike and manage 3 or 4 holidays (festivals) throughout the year, I only holiday in the UK .... but I earn less than minimum wage per hour.
I'm a lone parent, self employed and love it. I really wouldn't change it for the world. I'm quite frugal with the things I buy and quite creative when it comes to finding a use for items that may otherwise be thrown away. I make good use of car boot sales and charity shops but I'm still careful about handing over the cash. Grow some of my own fruit/veg, cook from scratch - I'm very OS
I would say I live within my means and I'm fortunate that I don't have any debt now.
I see friends and family who earn lots more than me but they are the ones complaining about how much they owe on credit cards etc.... and the funny thing is they all seem to think I earn loads of money as I have a nice home and nice things. I must earn the least by far but I think that over the years being sensible has obviously paid its dividends and I think I have a great quality of life. I don't feel that I struggle to make ends meet, I cut my cloth according to my budget.
There is so much more to life than money, I'm just lucky that I've found a balance that works for me.I won't buy it if I can make or borrow it instead
