Am I being tight considering giving these gifts?

I have a couple of Christmas presents I can wrap for them to take back home with them for family members where they live (saves on the postage).
However, I have the chance to cross off another couple of people (it would be my Mum and one of my sisters) if I give them some vouchers.
I was given a £25 gift voucher back in the summer to exchange for any one of loads of companies (from AQA as a thankyou). I decided to get Evans clothing vouchers to get some stuff for my holiday but ended up getting a few bits cheaper on Ebay. So, I have this voucher which I really won't use for the forseeable future. Should I give it to my Mum for her Christmas present?? (she also shops there)
I also have £20 in M+S vouchers, 1x £10 and 2 x£5, all from points saved, freebies from offers etc. My middle sister has no qualms about receiving vouchers, I was thinking about giving her the £10 one?
What do you think about recycling the vouchers as presents??? I've always had a bit of a 'thing' about buying vouchers as gifts.
I can see nothing wrong in using these vouchers as gifts if they are for places that the recipient can use, stick the vouchers in a small box of chocs or toiletries gift set if you feel guilty about giving them!

Hi Mommyme
> "we would only spend £25 per person"
Really? Do you mean that each of you would only spend £25 in total? If you mean that you would spend £25 on each person, I think that is a lot of money.
Maybe I'm out of touch with prices but I would never spend £25 on a present for one person. I keep a "give away drawer" and put things into it throughout the year. I buy things when they're on offer and stock up on presents that will do a range of people, eg nice stationery. I agree with everyone who said they would be happy to receive vouchers, although I've often passed on presents which I'd been given early for Christmas. It's the thought that counts!
I am always shocked by notices proclaiming items over £10 as "stocking fillers".
I'm so glad that other people are trying to save money!0 -
we have a rule in our family only five pounds each for adults this works well as no one feels under pressure.0

Hi BurlesqueBabe,
I think you're being both thoughtful & extremely sensible.
On the dodgy gifts - i have an aunt who is notorious for dodgy gifts & the gems I've had from her over the years include : a compass, small wooden bowl full of peanuts, set of 3 red napkins & the all time classic which was a watch that had come free with mizz magazine ! god knows how she came by that as she's 70 odd.
Cant wait to see what I get this year

I like the put them in chocolates/smellies idea. I have to pop to Tesco first thing in the morning, so I think I will buy a small but pretty pot of something for a £1 or so and put them with that. If I had any cellophane, I would make a batch of Twink's hobnobs for each of them, wrap them in the cellophane with a ribbon on the top but I don't have a roll of it unfortunately.
Saying that though, I've probably got numerous unopened pots of hand cream and what have you I could probably recycle!!!!!
My normal budget is £15 for Mum and Dad each and £10 for my brother, 2 sisters and niece and then £8-£10 for each grandparent.
Ohh, that's a point, grandparents still to buy for, my £8.50 total will be going up after all"Stay Wonky":D

I think the vouchers are a good idea, i have been slavishly totting up what i can get for all the vouchers/points i have myself. I don't give a fig what anyone else thinks in my family or OH's either.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

my gran once gave me a gift set which had been addressed to her from my cousins, and it was over 10 years old as the date and sticker were on the back:rotfl:Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

I LURVE getting vouchers! I never think of it as someone not thinking about what to buy me and at least I know I will be able to choose something I actually like. It is great too as you can use them in the January sales so can get nice bits and bobs for even less money!:j 'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' - DFW Nerd member 866 :j0
