  • I like receiving gift vouchers especially for xmas as once you have opened your presents there is still spending the gift voucher to look forward to. For me this is usually weeks after. They are better than cash as I then don't feel guilty about spending them as I have no choice but to buy books or clothes or whatever so I think it is a great idea as long as it is for a shop the person will shop in.

How can you be seen as being "tight" giving vouchers like that? You earned them in the same way as you earn "cash" - if you had given them £25 or £10 cash in a card, would you have considered yourself tight? No!

I once got some cinema vouchers for christmas - I don't have time to go to the cinema very often, and it was my nephew's 12th birthday who loves to go to the cinema, and I couldn't afford to buy him anything else, so I gave him my vouchers, just in a new card. He was happy, and I knew I had given him a present he would appreciate, without me having to spend money I couldn't afford.

My mum & dad give always give me vouchers as the "big" part of my xmas pressie - mum thinks I'm too fussy (true) and would rather I got more for my money in the sales. So BB, fine by me.
I do lots of comps so often give prizes away as pressies as long as it's something I would have bought the person anyway I think that's ok - now I'm feeling tight!

Ok so it's not the most amazing present... you can actually use them (barring wheat or gluten intolerance/out of date etc).

Yes it shows lack of imagination/money but "its the thought that counts"

Maybe they were planning on cheese the next year?!

are you missing the point? This present so obviously didn't have any thought put into it!

I think vouchers for Christmas is great - especially as a £25 gift voucher can turn into a £50+ voucher in the January sales !!!

No thought into what to actually give but the thought was there to actually give a present in the first place! :o

BB I think vouchers re fine to give as a present! I plan on giving vouchers to both my sisters and their husbands this year,a couple of other people and my babysitter!!!

I was only having this conversation with my mum this afternoon! She agreed with me that its much better to give a voucher to someone (for somewhere they are likely to shop) than a gift you hope theyll like:)
