Hi again,
Just popping back in to see how you are doing ...
It's great that you are still motivated and doing your best to save money wherever you can ...:T
Excellent idea re: the spending diary .... i should really motivate myself to do one as well ...
I also find that carrying cash makes a real difference ..... it really makes you think twice about what you are spending ( or should i say wasting ) your money on ...
All the best with giving up smoking on saturday ...
Keep smiling ...

Thanks for posting the link to the spending diary, Paybacktime, I'm enjoying that! (only trouble is, I now want to go spend more, so I can track it!!) I'm gonna follow this thread a bit - it's inspirig me to see what else I can do!
Good luck with quitting smoking this weekend! (Don't know if it'll help but if my grandma can do it, age 60, you can too!!)0 -

Are you like me subdividing everything into the tiniest categories. I think its fab and a such a shocker to see i've spent more this week so far on fags than food. Always knew it cost me loads but to see it in a pretty little graph....well enough said.LBM 10/08 £12510.74/0 -
Hi. Well done on giving up the weed. I found it helped putting the cig money away each week, you could perhaps pay it off you debts, then you would really begin to see your debt free date zoom towards you.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

Well done for your progress and good luck with the smoking. Dont tell anyone but I am going for hypnosis this very morning to see if I can quit:eek: .
Anyway my reason for posting was to say not to forget to go through a cashback site, like Quidco, for your insurance and any other spending. Had £100 off car insurance this year and £65 off house insurance. Monies have all been deposited safely in the bank and have gone to overpay the mortgage.
Good luck once again, and am watching this thread as you continue on your debt free travel. When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:0 -
payback,
your question a few posts back - can you manage credit card accounts online?
I would think so..I manage my lloydstsb mastercard online.
Good luck0 -
Got my Barclay Current account statement today. Less overdrawn than i thought so good news. Been investigating my APRs and this is actually the cheapest debt I have so might use the remaining limit to pay off something else. My halifax Overdraft appears to be the highest. I will ring them tomorrow and see if I can get any better deal.
Shopped around for my car insurance and got it for £200, £50 cheaper than my renewal so pleased about that. Had to put it on My halifax card but as that is my second cheapest debt not too bothered. (Thats a lie but you know what I mean!)
Decided my payment a day should be going to Barclaycard from now on. It's my smallest CC debt and i really want to pay one debt off. Just need to get the banking codes for them. I was terrible. As i had every cc debt on direct debit for minimum payment when i got the statements I'd just open....quick scan to make sure that had gone through then bin them. Ah such a learning curve I'm on!!
Took lunch to work today, but did succumb to buying a packet of crisps to accompany....49p well it is Friday!
Firework display tonight. I work in a school so as I helped out me and DS got free entry plus a free burger! Cheap night out. My other friday night treat is a bottle of wine which is going down nicely.
Half a packet of fags left, when they are gone they are gone. Going to use the money to kick !!!! with the barclaycard.
Big shop needed tomorrow but going to .....shock horror.....make a list!

Just wanted to say well done on everything you've done so far - it's a great start for you!
The spending diary and taking lunches made so much difference to me - amazing how much it racks up.
One thing though.... I noted you said you might consolidate - seriously, don't do it just yet. You end up paying more over longer, and it doesn't teach you how to avoid running up more. I know, I've done it twice, and only recently cleared it.
Once you see how much you can save by smart shopping, credit-card tarting, cooking homemade stuff and generally looking after things, you won't want to sign up to any more debt!!
Good luck with it all - I hope it goes well for you xSome days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

Thanks betty
I have to admit i applied for a 6.5% lifetime balance from cap 1 last night but they are reviewing my application....so computer says maybe. I think i've screwed up too many times...i.e spending on transfer cards that i've learnt my lesson. But i DO take your point and a little part of me kind of hopes i'll get refused.LBM 10/08 £12510.74/0
